Why do New Zealand teams have to take games to regional towns? It's not an expectation of Australian teams so why NZ?
They shouldn't have to, but teams in Sydney could take some games there vs a NZ team, like tigers did with warriors in Hamilton, and manly did in chch aswell

If Wellington got a side playing 12 home games there is a struggle

The stadium in Hamilton is better and helps spread the clubs support

Not a fan of the orcas bid if they are playing games in Wellington

Should be South Island only (Christchurch dundein invercargill nelson)

Wellington can wait for nz3 down the track (Wellington Palmerstone north Napier rotarua and Hamilton)

We've seen parra take games to Darwin for ten years. Has it brought more fans, therefore $$$, to them? Has the cost of doing it been worth it?

That is a legitimate question. If the answer is yes then great. If it's no, then it's just an exercise in making people with crazy ideas feel better.

Hamilton (under 2hrs from Auckland) and Rotorua(under 3 hours) waaay to far north to be associated with a Wellington or Southern team (6 odd hour drive).
The super rugby boundaries are a pretty good guide of where the cities would fall, if orcas bid includes a Wellington presence it ropes in Napier, Hastings, Palmerston North,Masterton, Wanganui and New Plymouth and over 1 million more fans and double what a South Island only bid would do alone.
New Plymouth and Napier/Hastings would probably be a bit of a battleground area but everything north of there would be Warriors.
South Island going it alone I don’t think you’re going to see many games outside of CHCH with a couple in Dunedin

With the stadiums in Christchurch (eventually) & Dunedin. The team should only be playing at these two grounds imo.

Warriors aren’t taking games out of Auckland

And nz2 shouldn’t be based in Wellington cause it will kill off a Wellington side down the track

Hasn't stopped perf, even though lol@souffs took games there many times
I think there is a difference between playing one game a year in another city for 2-3 years straight then nothing again for another 4 or 5 years and trying to actually represent that particular city.

Again it will likely come down to financials, including Wellington and surrounds significantly increases the fan base and opens up a lot more corporate support with the number of companies that have a head office in Wellington.
Dunedin whilst it has a nice stadium it’s pretty tiny- less than half the population of Wollongong and quite a distance from Christchurch - ironically it’s about equal distance from CHCH to Wellington

Crusaders have built a strong rugby club based on chch and then the highlanders in Otago / Dunedin

So ignoring Wellington it’s an area that supports two super rugby sides

On that logic I agree but calling it ’Southern’ and having the odd game there defacto includes them while leaving the door ajar for their own team
Given they are the only bid the arl has met with (twice) looks like they are going to get it

I just hope it doesn’t kill off Wellington down the track
