Check out the Canterbury rugby leagues website. West coast rugby league site. Otago and southland may also have websites.

Just off the top of anyones head (unless one wants to do the research)

Are there enough Sth Island players to enable a NZ State of Origin type match..??

That's a shame because the game needs to the opportunity to grow in more than one location / area especially when it's up against Union.
I know the Kiwis are mad for their Union but that's not to say that League cant get any more popular & it should be given the chance to grow.

Ozbash, what $$$$'s are you talking about? There ain't no $$$$ in Wellington, Manawatu, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay or Waikato RL. If there are $$$$'s in NI RL it must only be in Auckland. I don't think there is too many $$$$'s there either. About the only team with $$$$ is the warriors

From the 4 nations squad it appears that only Lewis Brown and Simon Mannering are from the South Island.

There are more players listed with Australian junior clubs

Not an Island of origin. There are three times the number of people in the North Island and probably twenty times the number of rugby league players. Which is sad, in a way, because the two islands have distinct cultures. Auckland versus the rest could work, however. Everyone hates Aucklanders.

This shows you all the rugby league clubs in New Zealand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_New_Zealand_rugby_league_clubs

One place in New Zealand where league is surprisingly strong is the West Coast http://www.westcoastnz.com/live/searchresults_live/?category=rugby-league&listingtype=PROD
