NZ Herald : http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/4/story.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10495415

Nominations have been confirmed for the two vacancies for elected directors on the New Zealand rugby league board.

The four candidates for the ordinary director position are Selwyn Bennett, John Bray, Gavin Cherrie and Peter Mellars.

The election result will be confirmed at the NZRL's annual meeting in Auckland on March 29. There is only one nomination for the vacant associate director's position.

The successful candidate is Malcolm Cherrie, chairman of the New Zealand Universities and Tertiary Students Rugby League.

Ye Gods indeed.

I think that Archangel will be chiming in along the lines of: How many SAS deals... corruption... back-handers... Auckland conspiracy... nuclear attack imminent etc.

He'll be right on some of that. A Sel return cannot be allowed to happen. Smells of either seedy, or stupid, doings.

I,d like to see Steve Tew and Rob Fisher running the show...

No thanks.

RWC CEO Martin Sneddon and/or NZ Softball CEO Dale Eagar.

Sneddon handles crisis very well - as shown when in charge of the fractious cricket scene - and he'd get them. He has a respected profile, and is level-headed.

Softball performs at a high level internationally, is a "minority" sport, does very well on the smell of an oily rag, scrapes for funding the same as league without the profile, but there actually IS a regular domestic competition. No scandal, and similar working-class and family support base. Eager has to take a lot of credit for their success.

Ok, he's definitely not good for our game, but whoever the idiot(s) is/are who nominated him are not either. Sentimental and romanticism reasoning does not qualify their justification to warrant a nomination. Hopefully Killer exposes the ineptness of this district's nomination.

I officially wash my hands of anything to do with the NZRL admin. I'm tired of this sh*t.

Aaahhhh, I feel so much better.

Bay of Plenty vote for Bennett, Auckland for Bray, NZ Uni for Cherrie and Wellington for Mellars.

So, is NZ Universities the only associate league organisation in NZ that has it's books in order for Cherrie M to get gifted a postion?

What do these candidates and Cherrie M offer to NZ league?

Bennett is an ex publican and Cherrie M is/was teacher.

Competence aside, anyone without their hand in the honey-pot offers us quite a lot at the moment.

We know one of them did have / has sticky hands, how about the rest?

Even so, this democracy is an illusion. NZ league is destined to repeat the same mistakes ad infinitum and will make no real progress until razed to the ground and begun anew.

Word was that Waikato initially seconded Coastlines vote for Bennet NOT Bay of Plenty.
However then it was discovered so the story goes that only the Chairman voted for Bennett rest of the board didn't even know...both the Sels had just been through Waikato on the SAS Snake Oil trail...sorry Clothing trail, so go figure how true this is.

You know all this proves is that Bennett who was quoted as saying he had unfinished biz in NZRL is worried about dead bodies...like Eddy's Bar, and the ramifications of this so-called investment. The Bar from what I understand was bought for $400,00.00, but valuation at the time was only $250,00.00. The question I guess which needs to be asked is where the good biz sense was? Unless there was some form of payment outside of the bar say with a partner close to League in another area...

I guess its time to look into this and see what was going on...because here I beleive is the real reason why NZRL is in the state its in...More to come soon.

I will finish on a positive note though, whatever I have said about the board I will say this Phil Campbell has shown a lot of Balls by going public about this whole sorry saga in todays Sunday Star Times...He has been subject all week to a quiet smear campaign, that hasn't seemed to really work for those that started it...In fact I think that they have tried to use something from his time with the Masters as the blackmail to keep Phil under control, if indeed this is the case then again Campbell has my heartfelt sympathy.

He stood up and said his piece against a pack of Trolls that continue to bareface lie to us.
Campbell says he resigned Monday but the NZRL deny that and say it was tuesday...

Yeah Ray this is truly leading the way away from the direction of the last Board.
A lie is a lie, and I predict you will face that at the AGM, you are covering for mates and not working for the game...So the question is Ray if your not running the game who is?

Archangel2, I'm afraid they realise a simple home-truth in this world, usually operated by those with more sway than mere governments: Those that are interested in the truth have no real power, and those with real power have no interest in the truth.

All this talk just reminds me of an interview with Peter Leich on Radio Sport just following the kidwell/asotasi coach slamming...He was scathing of the NZRL, repeating his calls following the UK tour for fresh faces at the NZRL top, telling us absolutely stunning things like the incompetant idiots weren't even returning phone calls to major sponsors...now they continue to shoot themselves in the foot by adjusting truths like simply when Campbell resigned...Makes what they did to Bluey IMO WAY WAY more heavily swayed towards him in the his word against theirs thing.

The whole lot of them are just ****ing useless. Let's start again.

The New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) has confirmed the election of John Bray to the vacant position on its board.

In a postal ballot Bray beat off challenges from Selwyn Bennett, Gavin Cherrie and Peter Mellars for the ordinary director position vacated by former chairman Andrew Chalmers who resigned late last year.

Last month the NZRL appointed Malcolm Cherrie to the vacant position of associate director following the resignation of Phil Campbell.

Cherrie is chairman of the New Zealand Universities and Tertiary Students Rugby League and was the only nomination.

The NZRL said it had been working with the Institute of Directors in New Zealand to fill the three vacant positions for independent directors.

Well we had our little election, and with the way the election went I guess Robert Mugabe was the returning officer, must have jumped a plane back to Zimbabwee....

Votes taken away other districts allowed to vote...hell why even have elections it was all a farce!

AGM will be a rort this weekend watch them dodge the questions...
