NZRL waits to hear on two-test bid

There is backing from an unlikely source for New Zealand League to host both Tri-Series tests against Australia later in the year.

The NZRL should find out today if it has been successful in winning the bid to stage two tests, rather than just one.

Australian officials want to play one of the matches across the Tasman, but the Kiwis want to claim both.

Australian coach Wayne Bennett is backing the Kiwis to play at home twice.

NZRL chairman Selwyn Pearson said Bennett has a genuine interest in the Kiwis and a wish to see test matches shared around.

Pearson said Australia can not have all the cake, including State of Origin games and the annual ANZAC test, as the imbalance is not good for rugby league.

He also said the NRL has not endorsed a North-South game here this year, but they are still trying to stage the match from next year onwards, with all eligible players released.

I see the point, kind of fair I guess.

State of Origin matches and the ANZAC Test is played in Australia, having two International matches in New Zealand wouldn't do the game any harm.

Have to wait for 2006 and then it might happen.

New Zealand will not get to host both trans-Tasman tri-nations rugby league matches this year.

NZRL chairman Selwyn Pearson told the ARL he wanted both tri-nations matches to be held here, however his opposite Colin Love says they will have to wait until 2006 to host an extra test.

This year Australia hosts the Anzac test in Brisbane on April 22 and each country will host a tri-nations match later in the year before heading to Britain.

Wow New Zealand might get an extra game in 2006!!!! So Australia holds all the cards yet again!

NZ should be so lucky to get an extra game in 2006!!! Hang on the Tri nations (if it goes ahead) in 2006 are going to be held in NZ and Aus. Anyway!! As a lead up for the 2008 World Cup. (Or so we are lead to believe)

So yet again the rulers of the international game (or lack of it) the ARL/NRL are behind the bike sheds having a good old laugh!!!!!

(Just so fed up with Mr. Love and Mr. Carr)

i`m fed up with sel pearson!!!

the guy is an idiot, who should resign. why is the anzac test in australia every single year? if he had any kahunas, he would demand that the anzac test be played in nz every 2nd year.

the guy trumpets on about how he told them this & told them that, but nothing ever happens.

state of origin is an australian series, not a nz one. city vs country the same. so using that as an excuse to get both tri series matches played here just doesn`t cut it in my books.

don`t get me wrong, i`d love to see more tests played here, but as long as the nrl/arl are running the international game, & the nzrl bow down to their every demand, it`s not going to happen.

it`s about time the nzrl came up with some games relating to our country.

this north vs south aint gonna work. like it`s been suggested before, make it auckland vs the rest. that may have some appeal.

moaning about the nrl & their clubs not releasing players isn`t going to accomplish anything.

the nzrl just need to get on with it & organise something.

but hey, thats just my opinion, crucify me if you will.

cheers dazza

Does anybody else think it's time we pulled out of competition with Australia and Great Britain and simply focused on getting a Pacific Cup styled tournament going instead?

A radical move I know, but the NZRL need to stop talking about doing stuff and actually have the balls to do it.

I guess the only real problem we'd still have is, NRL and Super League clubs not releasing players.

Or is this going to far the other way? I just can't help but think we need to do something so these clowns might finally take us seriously.

Hey, we dont get enough test matches in Australia every year, so we should get some more, one test every year just isnt enough.

Thats why its good if they brought back the 3-test series, Australia hosts 2 matches, NZL 1. Then it changes a year or two after NZL 2, and then Australia 1.

Hopefully in 2006, Australia will be able to host at least one match against GB and not have a cricket score like 2002.

Get stuffed! plus your 200 odd NRL gams we get 13 NRL games plus one test?!?!?!

I think NZ should say ok, bye Australia we arent going to play you and set up a tournment between say France, PNG, Tonga, Cooks and FIJI...then maybe GB might turn around and say the same...then Aussie can play them selevs
