Melbourne finished first on for and against. They played Warriors who finished 8th, Warriors won.
The McIntyre system was in place so that meant the highest finishes who won in the first week went to the he Prelim and got a week off.
In this case it was us and Manly.

But Seymour's presence offered us other opportunities for most of that year and effectively limited Kimmorley's monopolisation of attacking opportunities, he gave us some balance and variety and it all went pffft in that final.
