Not a trolling thread, but I remember reading / hearing something a few months back that Kearney had instructed the Eels to stop off-loading which has been quite noticeable. With the instability / lack of the talent in the halves (McGuire ffs?), why has Kearney removed what was in recent years one of the Eels biggest weapons? Makes you guys a lot easier to defend IMO.

Just curious if anyone knows why Kearney did this?

Kearney has a "structure", which in the early season press he said he was keen to bring to the Eels game....

It looks no different to any other structure I've seen teams use in defence, pity is that our attack) is predictable (whether Hayne is at fullback or five-eighth.

For the start of the season we had essentially the same "spine" that got us to the 2009 grand final, Hayne, Mortimer, Rosbon, Keating and with Maguire as a hooker instead of Kingston. The pack looked pretty healthy too, so I don't buy the idea that the playing squad is hugely understrength and that's the difference.

It does come down to the coaching for mine, I hope it gets better next season.

Bellamy wannabe maybe. Trying to copy the successful storm (cheaters) style of play and discipline.

IMO it is because he is working towards something.

Anderson implemented that style of play as a hail mary, and it worked. But, IMO it also made it impossible for him to then change back to a more consistent style the following year.

Short term pain > Long term gain (hopefully)

I actually agree with SDM here. Kearney is visibly working towards a situation where we have two quality halves plus Hayne at fullback and where a gameplan built around the halves and fullback can be effectively utilised. With our present situation of not having proper halves the style of play Kearney wants is ineffective. It will likely come good next year.

The argument that Sandow is flourishing under an unstructured game plan was again raised on the Fox NRL show last night "on the couch". Gordon Tallis (bunnies mentor) said that he thought that Sandow would not have a problem playing in a structured environment. Phew.

Anyways, Souths are throwing it around like we did in 09. Those were the days...

Yes it's an obvious game plan however it would be somewhat comforting to see a support runner trailing Reni Maitua & some of the other forwards a little bit. It's frustrating to watch them get the arm free and not have someone there running off them.

We can play a structerecd game and win but it's important that there's variety in what they do rather than one out hits, use decoys, have runners on your left and right

Storm have a structure too, the difference being that they always have options left and right of the first receiver/ball carrier when they need them. The players know exactly what they are going to do when ball is in hand, but it still seems unpredictable to opposition defences.

Sandow is a class above anyone we have in attack, hopefully it will play into Kearney's style ok. And hopefully the guy doesn't get injured, because we'll just be f**ked again without him....

I dont want to be harsh cause i think Kearney has done a good job-But as far as game plan goes to me it seems like this - hit the ball up 5 times-kick it and a good chase.Wait for a mistake or a penalty and when in the opositions red zone do an attacking play on the 4th and 5th.
There is nothing doing in the middle of the park that needs to be addressed for next year.We need to be able to spread the ball al some offloads up the middle of the park.... Melbourne do a lot more with the ball then people make out.But simply they are also that good in the red zone they can get away with this game plan....

Alot of that has to do with the storm having the right players in key positions. At the moment Parramatta don't have that which is why it looks so slow and predictable.

Offloads and the lack of it is talked about way too much in this place.

Did you watch it? Tallis said the exact opposite of what you said.
He said he'd struggle to fit in to that structure.
He hates the idea of coaches coming in and implementing a style.
(I think it was a crack at mike maguire just as much as Kearney)
He said that Lang let's souths play souths style.
He said he hates watching st George play.
He said why would you change wests tigers style.
They are entertaining to watch.
He said yes he reckons sandow would struggle to play a structured style.

Well I watched it and I heard him say that Sandow would fit in, but then he went on to say that he hated the structured play.

I think we need a 3rd person who also saw it to cast his vote.

SK wants the team to play his way, not coach the style that suits the team he has.
This is about the future not this year, i think he is happy to cop the losses this year to get the players he is keeping playing to his style.

But they fall down in the fundamentals like solid tackling , shutting down offloads , running into gaps and supporting breaks and half breaks. That's not a structure issue , it's an issue of attitude

The most frustrating thing about yesterday's game is that we looked like we were trying to do that. We had players running on both sides but the playmakers didn't seem to understand who the decoy runners were, the support players didn't seem to understand there was a chance they would actually be given the ball. Playmakers were miss-timing their passes. Hole runners were miss-timing their runs. It looked like such a lack of communication between the players for the most part and a lack of understanding of the coach's game plan. You could say we have 'structure' but it's badly put together 'structure'. Not a good sign at all.
