The Patriots also signed Fred Taylor.

Signing Taylor and trading Vrabel off is a fantastic start to 2009 for the Pats. As much as I love Vrabel and will always love how he has played for us, he was extremely ineffective in 2008 coming off the edge. His cap hit didn't warrant his place.

All we need to do now is trade Cassel off. Draft Currie and sign a good CB and safety.

So who are the Pats OLBs now? Adalius was playing mostly on the inside wasn't he? Even if you slide him outside who else you got, surely not Tully Banta Cain ;)

Curry will go in the top 10, Pats won't get near him, may need to draft a guy like Larry English or Robert Ayers

I know the Pats like to sign older players and hope they have a little left in them but gee I have to ask about them signing Fred Taylor. The guy just turned 33 years of age. Well past the used by date for rb's. He didn't have a great season last year. Rushing for just over 500 yards at an average of 3.9 and just one td.

It's a typical Pats hire, they will pair Taylor up with Morris and Jordan to split carries. Although the stats aren't that good I watched a couple of Jags games last season and Taylor still had some pop, he will come in and provide some insurance for the Pats, with a chance to win himself a ring.

- Browns have traded TE Kellen Winslow to Tampa Bay for draft picks

Not sure this is a wise move by the the Bucs. Has a long history of injuries and some what of a distraction in the dressing room especially when things don't go his way.

What is it with TE's from Miami Uni?

Thats why he signed with the Pats. Hoping to win the super bowl. Supposedly receieving $2m-$2.5m over the next two seasons. Can't fault him for signing with NE.

But I do have to ask why NE signed him.

I was actually looking at it the other way around, you have a young QB in Brady Quinn who looked okay at the end of last season and was relying on Winslow. The aim is to surroudn young QBs with plenty of weapons, well the Browns have just traded his main weapon and security blanket (I know they have Edwards but their offense ran through Winslow), Quinn now has very little outside of Edwards in that offense.

I agree that Winslow has been injury prown and a bit of a nuisance (although I like his competitiveness), however when healthy he is one of the best in the business, not sure this works for the Browns.

Sage Rosenfels officially been traded to the Vikings for a 4th round pick.

Childress has said he still plans to bring in another QB, we'll see how that one goes.

Denver Broncos have signed FS Brian Dawkins. Man it will be strange seeing him in a different jersey.

DAWKINS FINALLY A DONE DEAL IN DENVER

Posted by Mike Florio: Friday, February 27, 2009 9:29 PM

After some conflicting reports on whether veteran safety Brian Dawkins had done a deal with the Denver Broncos, we're told that Dawkins finally has signed a contract to join the Broncos.

Dawkins was drafted by the Eagles way back in 1996, and he spent 13 seasons in Philly.

Seeing him in anything other than an Eagles uniform will be as bizarre as seeing Brett Favre as a Jet or Mike Vick as a member of the Mean Machine.

HAYNESWORTH'S "REAL" DEAL IS LIKELY FOUR YEAR, $48 MILLION

Posted by Mike Florio: Friday, February 27, 2009 9:41 PM

Like we've said time and again when it comes to these big-money contracts, the number that gets reported carries a lot of fluff aimed at making the deal look better, presumably to help the agent leverage the transaction into attracting further clients.

In the case of the contract signed on Friday by defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth with the Redskins, the headlines regarding a seven-year, $100 million deal with a maximum value of $115 million sound a lot better than something like, say, four years and $48 million.

But Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that, in reality, the contract is worth $48 million over four years.

In the fifth year of the deal, Haynesworth is due to receive a whopping $29 million in salary and bonuses. And since he'll be 32 when the 2013 season begins, the Redskins likely won't pay those amounts.

Still, $41 million of the $48 million is genuinely guaranteed, which is the true significance of the contract. Moving forward, look for a greater percentage of the actual base value of these contracts to represent guaranteed money.
