It certainly does seem though that the Cowboys panicked, traded back for minimal value then shot their load on a guy who would've been around later
Reports though are that the Cowboys-49ers deal had been negotiated that morning so it wasn't a hasty deal done with the clock ticking
All the talk in the past couple of weeks is that Dallas could trade down. They were never going to trade up, which is what they would have to do if they wanted Cooper or Warmack. I heard a whisper about a week ago that a Dallas/San Fran trade was on the cards. Now it could have been just a coincidence that the trade did turn out that way.
As I have said elsewhere the Cowboys were high on Fredericks. Looking at the ProFootball Weekly Draft Guide, Fredericks was rated the forth best guard/centre. Behind Cooper, Warmack and Winters. Winters hasn't been taken yet, but he is a guard who can play tackle. Dallas was looking for someone who can play guard/centre.
The biggest weakness the Cowboys had last season was the OL, especially the interior of the line. That's why they were looking for a guard/centre type of player.
Now I am not making excuses for the selection. My opinion as with most is that he was drafted at least a round too early.
