This bloke has played for NSW and Australia, but not the Aussie media is trying to offload him....

Blues coach Phil Gould praised Mason, saying that if the big Kiwi had succumbed to the pressure then his team-mates would probably have folded in last night's match.

Gould said Mason was a bloke who rolled with the punches.

"The more I learn about Willie, the more I see a bloke who has a lot of fun and gets in a little bit of trouble," said the victorious coach.

"They (the media) tend to play up the trouble part of it but he was terrific for us tonight and he was terrific for us throughout the week.

He's all yours boys...you raised him.

You never know...he might be a Wallaby

His father is Australian and a member of a well known soccer family from the Lake Macquarie area.
In the 1950's the small coal mining town of Awaba had one of the best soccer teams in Australia with over half the team being members of the Mason family.

He was born in NZ.

His mother is Tongan.

He was raised in Wangi Wangi on the shores of Lake Macquarie.

His first club was the Wangi Wangi Warriors.

His second club was Macquarie United.

His main junior side was Valentine/Ellebana (the same junior club as Josh Perry, Daniel Abraham, Anthony Quinn, Michael Ennis, Luke Burt, Brett Finch, Clint Newton).

He went to the Hunter Mariners from Valentine.

Exactly... You're allowed to play SOO Steve, notice how Hunt wants to and not play for NZ? You don't have to be Australian to play SOO...

But you have to be Australian to play for Australia, right?

You have to be a true blue Aussie, like Shane Webcke, Jamie Lyon or Hazem El Masri

What about Tony Carroll or Lam?

Carroll played for NZ
Lam played for PNG
Mason played for Australia

Willie mason is as Aussie as Aussie as Aussie. You've stolen a bit of our talent, but this is one bloke you can't return

I'm not sure where you got that info from, but trust me Mason grew up in Toronto, some 200m from the High School. He has relo's in Wangi.

So whats the point? Why not rename the team the "Australian Based All Stars"? Clearly heritage in a lot of cases plays no part in it.

And "Australians" like Phil Gould hypocritically argue about why international football sucks. Hmmm, gee Phil, is it because one country rorts more than any other?

By the way Gussy, Willie Mason is a dinky die Aussie. You can have him all the way to Darwin and back!

Who are you to suggest that El Masri isn't an Aussie? If a bloke grew up in this country after having been born elsewhere how does that make him any less of an Aussie than you? El Masri is a very worthy Kangaroo and has shown more pride in the jersey than the likes of Mason. He also has played for Lebanon in an effort to help develop the game there, what is wrong with that? His first choice is and always will be Australia. This country is made up of migrants and it's something that dills like you need to come to grips with.

Xenophobic attitudes like yours are outdated, backward and quite sad really.
