On field coach

Now i know this has been known for a while but today during the broncos match i really listened to what Tim Mander was saying to the players.
Heres some of what was said during the match:
Markers square
Stand up
Use your foot
Get back
Get up
roll over/off/away
Wait
Your offside
Your onside
Theres the 10
Up players
Don't start......well done

Now most of that is bullshit. Its just pointing out basic stuff. I mean these players are being payed huge salaries and if they need a referee to constantly remind them to do the basics then maybe they better take a long hard look at themselves. Things like Stand up, use your foot and markers square are pure basics of the game that anyjoe average can remember. The only thing the referee should have to remind the players about is the tackle count and the odd exception.
Its got to the stage where the referee is like a second coach who gets to go onto the field with the players. Its ridiculos and needs to be stopped. These players are getting payed enough to know the rules of the game.

I actually missed most of cechins match seeing the spectacle was poor. Still he really has a few harrigan trade marks in which i respect. He isn't afraid to make a big call and can stick by it, hes got some balls which too many of the new age refs lack. Think of some of our great refs and how they had a very hard attitude and weren't afraid to make the big calls instead of sitting on the fence.

mander is not the only ref that talks to the players they all do it.
even in grade and junior footy its how they keep the game flowing. they are not stoping every 30 seconds for silly little infringments it also helps the ref concentrate on what he/she is doing it is definitely not coaching. you may also here the refs say "no penalties" that is just to keep the players in line or stop what your doing, like rakeing the ball out or get off the takled player NOW, its good they do it i recon.....a good game is a fast game.

I often hear Bill Harrigan say things like 'oh yeah, I missed that...thanks mate'
Frightening stuff.

First of all i wasn't singling mander out at all, all refs do it.
I agree with most of what you've said pointdexter but i feel some of it isn't needed. Most of it are basic rules and a player knows when he is out of line. If they don't then its amazing they are in first grade.

Harrigan can often make me scratch my head by his comments as well willow.

it may surprise ya but players no jack shit about the rules, they know the easy ones like get back 10 and forward passes and knock-ons but the tecnical rules? forget it. i worked in a big leagues club for years and the players were no rocket scientists believe me.they recon its the refs job to know the rules not them.

I think your generalising a bit to the extreme there.
If you actually listen to some of the calls and what not that players argue with the ref over most of them are no dummies. They know their rule book and often having me scratching my head not knowing that rule previously.

Anyway that comes back to my original topic that players get paid enough to know the rules of their pofession.
