On Field Rare Gems

Lance Thompson tripping as Nathan Brown passed him the ball from a penalty tap and the ball hitting him in the head as he fell.

It was a perfect indicator of 70-10.

I was so cranky during the game that I wanted to throw the television out the window, drive down to Melbourne & shoot every single player.

But when this happened, I pissed myself laughing. I don't know why but I was no longer angry at all. Amazing what a gomer moment can do.

That moment was the funniest crap I've ever seen on the field.

Thanks for the memory, I was at that game!! and standing in the rain all alone as my GF stayed home, in my Dragons jersey the Melbourne wankers were in my face literally ALL game telling me to go home Sydney twinkie! So fun, only my 2nd Dragons live game too being from WA! It was a tragedy in my life..... to witness it first hand live though, It was just one of those rare games where every single tiny thing went SO wrong for us and every single thing went right for them....

John Dorahy fooling everyone with his "balls gone dead" bit and the Max Mannix bombed try were both gold.

The "mousetrap" actually working in a semi against the Raiders was a great moment.
Was it Mannix at Belmore ??
I could've sworn that was Lamb ? I was actually there and will never forget it (or so I thought) but I've always thought it was Lamb?

these days the boring refs would pull you up for trying anything off the cuff genius like that! and it stinks as in leauge you have to be on youre game the whole time every second....I wish theyd let players play their own unoqie style with all the tricks as long as its not lllegal anything should go like it used to

Forget Mayweather and McGregor.

Try Tamati v Dowling.
They were sent off for fighting and the fight started again just after they went through the gate to the tunnel.

Nasty stuff.
I think from that game on, they never sent two opposing players off the field together.
They would always hold the second one back, until the first player was out the gate.

Not a "gem" of a moment, but certainly unforgettable..
Personally, I am glad those days are gone.

In the 70's the set plays the Saints use to play the criss cross move I think it was called "billy's ball"
Worked every time !!
The brown mouse trap...loved it. The choc and tinga somersaults in the 90's what a majestic sight !
The Parra wedge barge over.

Manly used the mouse hole move against Newtown in the Brawl semi. Stupid move

What about Lamb's naughty field goal, thinking it was a winning kick

Bring back numbers on sleeves, reserve grade with proper numbering and identical jerseys.

The pathway to 1st grade is pathetic now

Back in the day -

Matthews Cup
SG Ball
jersey Flegg
Presidents Cup
----graded -------
U23s- third grade
Reserves
1st Grade

Now that is ideal 1st grade prep

1973 Newtown V St George SCG and Trevor Ryan puts Kenny Wilson on to kick the winning field goal and coincidently the only score of the game.

Manfred Moore scoring in his 1st game at Henson Park.

After game comments by supporters on Rex Mossops ( 2nd half only ) suburban Saturday game in the late 60's .It didn't even last the year as one eyed supporters would slander the refs and Rex got the shits when they didn't agree with him. That as well as hoons throwing banana or apple cores at Rex !

Remember these two both in the late 60's early 70's ?

Frank hyde's computer match ups one summer. The information would be tabulated by a computer and Frank would do a game commentary. We were represented by our 1959 side and i think got beaten in the GF by the East side of 1934 . What a gimmick but not as good as ...

Rex Mossops in studio touch football televised over summer on ch seven . All first grade sides played and it must have been like playing in a netball court ! 5 or 6 a side. Lasted one year .

The players lining up at 3 pm on half way opposite each other and shaking hands then the one on your left and the one on your right and all the while the ref reading the riot act out to the players like they do in prize fights.

The traditional softening up period by the Saints. Didn't matter how many times the opposition would kick it back to to us to try and escape the onslaught it went straight back down their throats for them to take a bit more punishment.

A draw was a draw except for semis and then it was extra time 10 each way and not golden point.

Puff put through a hole and then throwing the head back. No greater site in the all the games I've ever seen.

Far too many players to remember them all trying to pick which leg Changa was going to step off let alone when he did it off the other leg straight after it. A lot of air swings trying to pick it.
