Dragons Grant Beale Release

The St George Illawarra Dragons have granted Gerard Beale a formal release from his current playing contract.
Beale has been granted an early release to take-up a multi-year opportunity with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
Beale made his first-grade debut for the Club in opening round of the 2013 campaign against the Melbourne Storm and made 29 appearances in total.
“Gerard has been provided an opportunity to join the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on a multi-year contact which he has accepted ahead of next season,” said Head Coach Paul McGregor.
“The Dragons would like to thank him for his services to our Club and wish him the very best for his future.”

What a joke! How unprofessional! The buck stops with Doust.

I personally don't mind Beale as a player, but I suspect he's being let go because he's on too much coin for a centre with his ability. I'm hoping they put the money to better use, perhaps for a decent prop such as Packer, but I'm not holding my breath.

Which Beale are you referring to GRANT or Gerrard?

Beale was good this year but we may be able to get a similar result from Mata'utia, TG, Nielson, Farrell or Aitken on far less money and that's what it's all about now.

Ooooh possm, you poor, silly sod!

I was going to come on here and say this waa the most ridiculous basis for Ousting a CEO I've ever heard, but it becomes even funnier when i realised that you simply misread it!

They arent saying his name is grant, they are saying they GRANTED him a release!

Bless you sir!

Must remember to send a thankyou letter to the Sharks .....

Though Beale was ok if we have a good recruitment officer we should be able to get better for less money, now where is that pink text button :sarcasm:

Beale was ok....but we just lacked that thrust and power in the centres. That seems to be the prototypical centre now...A Hurrell/Leilua type. It's why we had Dugan there.

Beale and even Farrell were just too small...better off as wingers.

Not sure if Mata'utia and Nielsen are the answers, but this is where I think we're headed. And more importantly, Dugan can go back to FB.

I think all the players that have been off loaded is because they are soft defenders. Sure the salary cap is a good justification to move some players but to win a comp You have to be able to protect your goal line with strong hitting power in defence. Beale, Stanley Harrison and Stockwell were soft. The jury's out on Farrell. Also Ahmau, Hunt and even everyone's favourite Friz have question marks over their stopping power.

I think besides trying to add some bulk to the squad it's toughening up the team's D that is Mary's no.1 priority

Big George may have bulk, but can be a liability in defence!!!
