WENTWORTHVILLE Magpies will have only a handful of players returning from last years NSW Cup triumph but they will again be the team to beat.
Thats because the Parramatta Eels reserve grade side have won the last four competitions despite a large turnover of players each season.
Coach Rip Taylor, who was brought to the club by former first grade coach Michael Hagan, said getting to know a new group of players each year was part of the job.
I think the opposition will probably look at us as the team to beat but being a ressie squad, we have only five players from last year so it is always a big turnover, he said.
It is part of the challenge but at least the players dont get sick of what Im saying.
Taylor said his side had endured a disjointed pre-season.
Our first trial was washed out which was unfortunate for the young guys who missed the opportunity to show their wares, he said.
Our last trial match against the Newtown Jets was much better than the previous match against Penrith which was like watching paint dry.
Taylor said there were a number of players on the fringes of the first grade squad who he could lose during the season.
If the opportunity comes up Im sure they will make a statement, he said.
There are obviously those guys who spent the summer with Daniel Anderson and a lot of them will be putting pressure on the recognised first grade guys.
Im guessing they dont want to see too much of me and hopefully, for their sake, I wont be seeing too much if them.
* Wentworthville take on the Bankstown Bulls in round one of the NSW Cup at The Crest in Georges Hall on Saturday, at 3pm.
