I think the the fact that they nearly lost the ashes twice 90 and 92 v GB. Made the Aussies start down the path to homers.When the 94 Ashes came up all 3 matches were given to Aussie refs. 2001 two of the three were Aussies refs.

Like when England played NZ in 2015 and 2 tests were reffed by Englishmen Ben Thaler despite Neutral refere Gerard Sutton being in England and referring the other test.

We should have neutral refs for all test but don’t try and make it out like it’s something only Australia do

I’m not going to bag the ref but I do believe we should have neutral refs, I’m not calling last night in to question I just don’t believe the question should be there.
I would like to see the NRL and RFL push for Kiwi and French refs to be developed. In the future hopefully some North Americans also.

Cecchin missed a massive knockon in the PNG match.

Other than that the one ref has been good.

Best part about the reffing so far is not hearing them every second of the game coaching the stupid merkins

It was a great game and great way to start the World Cup.
However, why the hell are we STILL not using neutral referees. There is no way known that Matt Cecchin should be refereeing a game involving Australia, its beyond farcical.
No other sport would ever allow this, real amateur hour.

We always used to have neutral referees, even for the meaningless ANZAC Test. Why has this changed the last few years?

FFS, and people wonder why international league is in the toilet. No test is meaningless.

Maybe all referees need to disclose who their favorite team was when they were a kid so we can keep them away. Gotta keep the game pure afterall.

The best thing that can be said of the refs so far is that I've barely noticed them.

Really liked the Bald English ref. Great to see a bloke who was politely in charge of a game, instead of trying to be mates with the players.

Brilliant Rugby League referee - by far the best I have seen referee in the last 20 years

He talks straight to the players and lets them know he is controlling the game not them
He is fair and he rarely gets things wrong.

In other sports Nigel Owens is the only person I've seen who is that good

Would be very happy to see him ref oz vs England. Much better than any ref oz has.

It feels very weird not having a ref with his hand on the ass of the markers every play.

I just don't understand how can rugby league be played without a ref right there in the crack of every play the ball.
