the whole keeping issue is the biggest example of how geniused NZ cricket is...

McCullum should be keeping...

it gives us the option of bringing in a much needed extra batsman and bowler.

who gives a f**k what McCullum wants... when he starts averaging over 40 with the bat then we can start considering him as a batsman...

Get over it. The guy hasn't been keeping in Tests for a couple of years now or whatever, you probably one of those people who ring up Radio Sport everytime Cricket is discussed and whinge about how he isn't keeping, it's not going to happen so move past it. His back and knees can't handle keeping in Tests anymore, his back has been f**ked for years. Since he was 19-20. We have one established batsmen who averages over 40 so go ahead and drop the rest of them while you're at it then.

Just saw a few highlights of Waitling's "tidy performance" with the gloves for ND. Hardly confidence instilling.

wait till Wagner is eligible in a couple of months... he will be close to being put straight in there....
Ahead of who?

I hope we play Van Wyk and BJ Watling as a specialist batsman. This idea of playing 4 quicks on a regular basis isn't gonna work. Not every pitch is gonna be as green as hobart not to mention the fact that we have a weak top order.

It's my understanding that McCullum has either a knee or back injury (I forget which one) and it takes too much toll on his body to keep going up and down in the 5 day format, so that's why he had to give up test keeping

So something like this

McCullum
Guptil
Williamson
Taylor
Brownlie
Watling
Van Wyk
Vettori
Bracewell
Southee
Martin

Would give Watling a chance to secure a spot for the SA Test series.

His back has been busted since he was playing under 19's stuff.

and now that he's getting older he has to look after it more and stuff, so it's in the interest of his health and prolonging his career that he doesn't keep in tests anymore

Exactly, and since he started opening the batting he has actually done pretty well, for a New Zealand opening batsman anyway. But these facts can't quite work there way through to the average New Zealander.

That's what it should be but I reckon they will play Watling as the keeper and play 4 seamers.

Watling as keeper would be nonsensical to me. Van Wyk averages more than Watling domestically and is clearly a better keeper.

Vettori will undoubtedly bat 6 with 4 quicks. That might work in Napier against Zimbabwe but I doubt it will work against Steyn and Philander.

Oh man, what a match up. Two of the absolute heavyweights of the international program and the jewel in the crown of the ICC Tours Program.

From what I've heard the ground at Napier is set to be packed with nearly 200 people.

Exactly my point. If we're gonna go in with this attitude, we have to make greentops for visiting sides.

I fail to see how that it is amusing. Stick to Australian Game Day threads if you have no interest in the game.

I don't think we will go with four seamers against SA, and if we prepared green tops against them we would be in a lot of trouble more than any benefit to us.

I thought it was crazy enough that we had 4 which is stupid but 1 test is even stupider
