This article is so true:

The Anderson era was a very rocky one with Cronulla. However, there is no doubt that Anderson has enough notches on his belt to say he is a winning coach. he was in the middle of a cleanout at Cronulla, who would never have gotten high profile players like Brett Kimmorley or Nigel Vagana to their club otherwise.

Anderson's results last year were poor, culmination in a 70 point loss to Parramatta. However, cronulla's opremiership recrod (37 years and won f*ck all) suggests that there is nothing within the culture at that club that has anything to do with winning.Nowhere near a Granmd Final since 1978! And look at the calibre of coaches they have had! Arthur Beetson, John Lang, Chris Anderson - all Test coaches, plus the great JACK GIBSON! And no premiership. And I guess it's all the coaches fault?

They could have done a lot worse than let him see out his contract.

As any Australian will understand, Jack Gibson's immortal words again ring true: "Waiting for Cronulla to win a premiership is like leaving the porch light on for Harold Holt

Cronulla - 0 premierships, 0 coaches.

Zero credibility.

To Chris Anderson,

Thankyou for attempting to change the attitudes of the Cronulla club and the supporters. We have never won a comp and you were 2\\3rds of the way to changing that.

Unfortunatley, this club and the majority of it's supporters are far more comfortable with mediocrity than they are with taking a few risks to achieve our goal.

This years results combined with a fair bit of your own pig headed self will now see your dream and mine remain unseen.

Thanks for trying anyway.

McSharkie.

where did you celebrate tonight?
At the new Shark park on the Gold Coast.
just finishing predesign on the Chris Anderson Stand.
Right next to the car park & toilets.
Front row seats for jimbo, mcsharkie, Dragon slayer, husky etc etc. with an endless supply of tissues in the arm rests.

In all seriousness, Cheers went up around Cronulla everywhere last night.
Not just my place.

Ask those guys how much they wanted to win the big one. It's not the only thing, but it's the main thing.

I agree and this isnt my personal opinion of CA but more a summary of the feeling around the Shire:

I've never seen such hatred of a man amongst run of the mill Sharks fans, you'd have to go back to the pre-Super League hatred of Manly to compare to it

"Chris Anderson" has just become a dirty phrase in Shire folklore - as far as the average punter is concerned the name is synonymous with "low merkin" or "the lowest merkin"

People will speak of the Anderson years as some of the darkest in the club's history...they will only dare speak his name quietly in hushed tones around crowded bars at Northies

I've heard people openly wish for his death and this sort of feeling will stick around for a very, very long time

I would preface this post by stating clearly that I was, and am, a supporter of retaining Opes for the length of his contract. I don't believe it's necessary to go into the why-and-why-not of this given that people obviously have their minds made up either way. However I would like to be slightly arrogant and try and point out a few things...

The proponents of the "Pro-Anderson" saga, who were for the majority upbeat throughout 02-03, have now quite starkly begun singing a different tune. I would hazard a guess that this is predominantly due to the fact that they're overly emotional at the moment. Hence, "The end is nigh." Much like our old friend who stands with his "UFO" sign on the western side of the Princes Highway at Arncliffe (Dimitri I believe his name is) day in day out.

I have had my say regarding the proponents of the "Anti-Anderson" set in the past, no need to ressurect them here. What I would say though, is that I'm bitterly disappointed in those that were upbeat in 02-03, turning so quickly to be harbingers of doom. It gives those who purport to run inside-lanes on information to much of an easy target.

So to those who are whinging.. pull your heads in, and neck up you parrots. Because you're painting yourselves into corners..

The thing I can't understand is why they so desperately needed to sack him?

Did the players not want to play for him anymore? No.

Could he not attract player talent? No.

Were any of the breaches of codes of conduct really that serious to want sacking him? No.

So why put the club on the line and raise more controversey by sacking him and risk unsettling the players at the club? Reason: A petty power struggle by the board.

I think you'll find the answer has something to do with Anderson's behaviour throughout 2003, along with declining results on-field.

Now that Anderson is gone, Cronulla can go back and pretend there doing something good.
It's all about perception.....

The answers are here on todays threads. Quite specifically actually.
they have nothing to do with anything you are saying.
Someone else can say it, but i won't, because of the importance.

Leave it to me, BT.

It was a petty power struggle by the board.
