Does anyone know how Chris Anderson got the nickname Opes? I've looked in a dictionary and there is no definition.

whippet - you bring nothing to the table but a pile of crap

how about discuss real topics - not about old dinosaurs who left the game centuries ago. your picture of ben howland only confrims your standing as a man living in the past.

yor post had 0 replies for 4 days and in my opinion thats how many it deserved.

nothing personal, just lift your game.

Chill mate - it is a reasonable question, no need to shoot the man...as for the answer, I'm not sure

The same could be said for you.

If you don't like the question, move on to another thread. Whippet hasnt broken any rules and is entitled to open a discussion.

I think it is supposed to Oops not Opes. As in

Oops look how I left Canterbury
Oops look how I left Melbourne
Oops look at what I did to Cronulla
Oops look at my Union coaching record.

You have 8 posts champ, and you're going around sticking sh*t on others? Gimme a break, why are clowns like this allowed on here? BBSF and the Covell crowd, AlexM, curry, Slava, etc, and now this bloke?? Is it just me or has there been a swathe of idiots signing up over the past month or so? And who the hell is Ben Howland?? Speaking of needing to lift their game, maybe you should.

As for the nickname, it's probably short for something or a bastardisation of another word, his middle name, or something.

Just something you should realise mate, there are all kinds of people on this forum too, and a lot of things that seem important to them or pique their interest aren't the same as what piques yours. Quite simply if you don't find an interest in a topic, just ignore it and move on. Makes life easier.

back to the original question...

I'm certain there should be a silent D at the start.

Chris Anderson is a life member of the Dogs, a successful coach, and I won't say a bad thing about him. Buggered if I know about the "Opes" thing though.

Croydon, I for one am quite interested in the origin of his nickname, however trivial it may be.

An article in the Guardian reckons:

The story goes that he was given his nickname, Opes, when he first arrived at Canterbury as a player, on the basis that he was so chilled out that he had to be on opium.

http://sport.guardian.co.uk/rugbyleague/story/0,10069,1080567,00.html

I'd heard that story before, so maybe it's the source?

EDIT: sorry Covell, didn't see your post before I wrote this...
