orford should be our man. screw the 30 june anti-tampering clause. tell him we want him and the money is there if he wants in. then talk to him july 1 and seal the deal.

Agreed

I agree with most but I think Orford will cost you more than Johns.

Orford would probably sign for around $300K??? That leaves about $200K left to maybe go after a young prop. Add to that the possibity of Kennedy leaving and there's another $300K or so. Plus whatever Robbie O's on these days...if they want decent players and theres some around, then they could have the money to spend.

Agreed sign Orford and use the change to upgrade contracts, David Seage etc. BK if he stays takes a pay cut and we go shopping for young front rowers.

Like all arguments- you need context to support viewpoints. To say "The knights rarely make big name signings" is correct IN TIMES WHERE OUR JUNIOR TEAM PERFORMANCES WERE STRONG AND WHEN WE DIDNT HAVE ANY MONEY.

In 2004/5, with the prospect of available funds (Johns, Kennedy and Tahu) we will clearly have funds. Plus, this and last years junior team performances and results are much worse than times gone past.

My point is that, in this new environment, MAYBE the Knights WILL BE FORCED to sign a big name or two.

I am not for one moment saying that our emerging talent is unsatisfactory, but lets face t. they WILL ALWAYS be judged by their RESULTS, and, at the moment, these are unsatisfactory.

Offer Orford a 3 year contract on BK's money, drop BK to Robbie O's salary for this year IF he wants to run round again and that leaves Joeys money free to either resign or spend on the junior troops or upgrading current contracts.

Sign Orford

If Johns wants to go around with the Knights again let him as well. Of course by signing Orford, Johns will have to sign for a very low amount.

Johns & Orford can be the halves. Johns has played 5/8 before.

has he? i cant imagine johns would won sign if the club stabbed him in the back, 2 orford would sign to be overshadowed by johns, 3. they would work well together, two extremely creative and dominant halves need a recluse partner to complement them and just be a last play option if they need to, otherwise they outdo eachother and compete with eachother

the clubs stabbed johns in the back? the club has a few wounds from johns this week.

johns has no intention of signing with the club - from all the comments he is off to union and why wouldnt he? 11 games for the waratahs, maximum of 6 games with the wallabies, finish it off with the world cup. it will prolong his career and he will be awesome in union. it's almost part-time to what he has been used to and they will pay just as much as league - maybe more.

the knights have signed big names when they have had to - and what we need is a specialist halfback. the juniors coming through are either not up to it or not ready. Orford would be just ideal.

id actually think the great joey union experiment would fail, he would be nowhere enar the player e is ni league, hed get the ball less, get to kick less, and have to adjust to be a team player/distributor more than a shining light. Hes too much of an individual to work in union, i dont think hed be able to work with the forwards

Joey owes us 3 years. I don't say it's his fault, but ater all he was paid to do the job and he got injured so we couldn't win the premiership. It wouldn't be ethical to leave now. By the way he should say wheter he gonna leave or not, so we can do some shopping and training. I m sick and tired of having big Joey who gets injured every year and leaves us alone.

He'll try and wait till the end of the season before making his decision, he should inform the Knights of his intention before the deadline. Joey leaves till the end of the season decides to leave, Knights have no half back for next season :?

Luke Dorn is another player worth considering. Don't know how long he's signed for with the Goosters, but he wouldn't be happy playing second fiddle in Premy league for too long I would think. I would be surprised if the Knights hadn't already put a few feelers out to both players already. ;-)

simple - give him a deadline, and stick to it. if he cant make up his mind by, say, end of May, then tell him bad luck and look elsewhere.

he is not bigger than the team, no matter what he thinks.

we should have signed him last year, hes a good player behinfd astrong pack adn i dno how the roosters cna even afford ot have him sitting around in reggies, unless hes outside the 25 adn isnt being brought in until fittler retires next year

you can see thats exactly what the roosters have in mind for him - why else would a starting NRL player sign to a team and play first division voluntarily for a year? if you were promised a starting role the year after in one of, if not the top team in the NRL (yeah it hurt me to say it...), then why wouldn't you?

mmmm, i also reackon there is a fair amount of money in it for him, more than he would have got elsewhere, if they keep him out of the top 25 his slaary ahs no bearing on the salary cap, mehtinks you're right alex, hes been promised fittlers position when he leaves adn possibly a chunk of his salary
