I'm surprised any NRL player or official speaks with Weidler. I just don't understand it when the league fraternity usually close rank. Surely most have lost all respect for him.

Raiders winger Earl faces drugs allegations

Date
June 14, 2013

Glenn Jackson, Adrian Proszenko, Jon Tuxworth

Canberra winger Sandor Earl is the subject of claims he used peptides to aid his recovery from shoulder problems while he was at Penrith in 2011.

Channel Nine made the allegations on Thursday night, naming Earl, who recently signed to play rugby union in France with Pau, as using peptides at a private clinic in Cabramatta without the knowledge of Penrith officials at the time.

A source close to Earl confirmed on Thursday night that, having become frustrated with the medical systems in place at Penrith, he was recommended to a specialist in musculoskeletal rehabilitation in an effort to get him back on the field.

An NRL spokesman would not be drawn on the allegations, maintaining the administration would let the ongoing investigation by ASADA run its course.

''The answer is the ASADA investigation is for ASADA, and we're not going to speculate on the investigation or any information contained in the investigation,'' the spokesman said. ''It's got a course to run, and that's what we'll do.''

Panthers executive general manager of rugby league Phil Gould added: ''We have absolutely no knowledge of these allegations so we can't make a comment.''

Earl is due to return to the Canberra side for Saturday's match - against Penrith - after the withdrawal due to injury of winger Edrick Lee.

Before the allegations were aired, Earl spoke to Fairfax Media about his recall, saying: ''I've definitely got a point to prove. I've played them [Penrith] twice now and it's one-all, I'm looking for a square-up, that's for sure and keep our record going at home. I haven't played for about three weeks and feel really fresh. I guess that [Lee's injury] is the nature of the beast, that's football. I've had my own little struggles with injury [at Penrith] and that opened the door for other guys to take their chance … It's come 360 again.''

Attempts to contact Earl after the allegations were aired were unsuccessful.

A Raiders spokesman said the club was unaware of the allegations in the report but declined to comment.

Fairfax Media reported in March that controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank had arranged a secret try-out for Earl with Essendon when he was working for the AFL club last year.

Earl admitted he knew Dank but was emphatic the sports scientist had not administered any treatment to him. ''No, no, no,'' Earl said at the time. ''I know him, but not, like, properly … he didn't have a proper role [at Penrith] like everyone else.''

Surely there has to be something come out from ASADA about Essendon soon? What are they waiting for? People were jumping up and down and having a giant whinge about the lack of cooperation from the Sharks players yet Essendon apparently have broken bread with investigators and told all yet the end result for both clubs seems the same atm.

So all they've managed to come up with in all this is "allegedly" a fringe first grader who is off to play Rugby in France next year.

*Nrl star.

Lol he is Rahrahs problem now, no?

#dorguson wept

no, he'd still potentialy be an nrl problem as he *may* have taken illegal stuff whilst playing for the nrl. doesnt the wada code have something about stripping teams of comps/wins if 2 or more were found to be using illegal stuff? given the pantehrs and raiders havent won anything i'm not sure what the effect will be on them unless it can be shown the club encouraged him to use something illegal.

i heard weidler airt the story on the radio, but there's been not much in the electronic media about it which you would expect if they thought it was a major story

Canberra Raiders statement regarding Sandor Earl

Friday 14 June 2013 11:40 AM

In regard to reports last night regarding Sandor Earl the Canberra Raiders have issued the following statement.
“The Canberra Raiders have always co-operated and will continue to do so with ASADA,” Raiders CEO Don Furner said. “ASADA have been the ones carrying out the investigation and it has to run its course.
“The NRL has made it clear that if ASADA brings forward evidence to issue an infraction notice then they will act immediately.
“That has not happened and we will not engage in any speculation before that – it is both unfair, improper and not an area I’d speculate on.”
“All our players are subject to the same process as every player in both codes and will deal with the appropriate authority ASADA. Our understanding is that ASADA put its interviews on hold some weeks ago.
“If any of our players are requested to attend an interview with ASADA I am sure they will cooperate. The Raiders support the processes of ASADA and will stand by any of our players throughout this process.”

Sandor Earl made this statement regarding the news report.
“I was shocked at the allegations raised last night and I absolutely deny any wrongdoing.”” Earl said. “My solicitors have already begun investigating defamation procedures"

The Canberra Raiders and Sandor Earl will be making no further comment on this issue.

Guilty until proven innocent - isn't that the way they work??

Seems to be the case.

It's bad enough that they released the clubs being investigated but now targeting players without any evidence is going a bit far. Doping allegations are about as sticky as mud gets, it doesn't matter how many times you use words such as "allegedly" and "sources close to".

Just like that poor young Souths bloke earlier in the year. There were a hundred stories written about his "alleged" drug use. There weren't many stories written about how it all ended up being false.

I hope Shandor does sue the pants off them.

Weidler wanted to know on twitter why Earl had a solicitor if he wasn't guilty... Well scoop, it appears it's so he can nail your lying backside to the wall for defamation.

Get him Sandor.
