Craig Bellamy is calling for an Origin match to be played in Melbourne every year.

I TOTALLY AGREE.

It should be game one every year too. What a great way to build the games profile in Victoria. I agree that it would eventually be played at the MCG and attract a large TV audience in Vic.

I think they should play game one in Melbourne, then alternate 2 and 3 in Sydney and Brisbane each year.

You are kidding right?

Let's make it the STATES of Origin then. New South Wales vs Queensland vs Victoria. What a joke.

Why would I be kidding?

OK, lets just keep it in NSW and QLD forever. Lets not grow the product. Lets shrink it instead.

You can still grow the product without cheapening the state of origin by moving it to a state that has NO RELEVANCE to it!

How is it cheapened by playing it in another Australian state?

If people come out to support one team or the other, whats the difference? There are plenty of expats in Melbourne anyway.

and if others come just to have alook then how is that a bad thing?

Thats an enhancement to the game not a 'cheapening'

Yeah, you can do that. But if we're all about growing the game, I'm sure the Storm's appearance in Melbourne every second week wouldn't be harming the game. I just don't see why we're moving something that has strictly been between NSW and QLD to incorporate VIC. Why does it have to be Origin? Why can't we play one international down there a year?

Because Melbourne is not part of Origin, maybe?

Origin IS cheapened when played in Melbourne because they don't suffer the same maniac passion that Origin provides. I haven't even experienced a finals series atmosphere that comes close to an Origin atmosphere. Also, the actual fans OF THE PARTICIPATING STATE then lose an extra home game every two years.

Sorry, but Melbourne should not be getting any Origin games. This, and the call to let the sheep f**kers play SOO is just another step to an All Star Game.

I hate the fact its in Melbourne. How many other great sporting clashes around the world do you see played at neutral venues? You don't see Rangers v Celtic at Wemberly. You don't see the Ashes in South Africa. You don't see the Red Sox v Yankees in Canada.

Its about NSW and QLD. f**k Victoria.

I disagree but not because I feel we have a divine right to have Origin in Qld or NSW but because I believe less is better. Origin in Melbourne every three years or so is an event for Victorians... if you play it there every year it can take away from the event a little... if you get what I mean... maybe every two years switch it to Melbourne or Perth or NZ...

No, Im not f**king joking. Grow the game... of course I don't really like SOO personally so that may affect my will to move the games...

Im all for growing the game, but as has been mentioned here already State of Origin is strictly between QLD and NSW, it should only ever be held in those 2 states.

Play as many internationals as you want in melbourne, ive got no problem with that, but the SoO series is specific to the two states involved and is the one form of rugby league which shouldnt be moved around.

I think the current model is about right ... giving an equal number of home games to each state and a development game in Melbourne. Better also to play the FIRST game rather than run the risk of a series decider in front of a Melbourne crowd.

I'd rather the first game in Brisbane of course ... but as a Queenslander I reckon we get a bigger slice of the fans in Melbourne than does the NSW team.

Let's face it, alot of Melbournians hate Cockroaches just as much as Queenslanders do (not really I love you guys).

I totally agree with everyone in this thread who says this shouldn't be played in Melbourne.

I can't believe Bellamy could say something so ridiculous and as a NSW coach it makes it even worse!!!

Has to be done. Sydney isn't going to sell out games so might as well let Melbourne make up their difference. 2 games at League HQ in Brisbane and 1 in Melbourne.

I don'y like it... but I agree. Every year in Melbourne detracts from it, but every three years in 3 different cities and you could be on to a winner. They'd have to put up the money to market it though.

When it comes to origin...f**k melbourne right off. Keep the game where it is meant to be played and thats NSW and QLD.
This is not the superbowl where cities bid to host it...this is 2 states that do not like each other and which has zero to do with Melb, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart, or even fricken Darwin.
