OT: Current Affairs and Politics

Last Wed I was (un)lucky enough to catch on the radio the Family Law Reforms being debated in the senate. It’s about streamlining confusing legalese in the current legislation to make it easier to make decisions in the best interests of the children. Although it actually had bipartisan support, Senators Cash and Hanson were not going down without a fight aka throwing in some manufactured gotchas with the hope of a headline. The context is that the consultant professors recommended rewording of the clauses, however the proposed amendments were essentially scrapped the old and inserted totally new. That just confused her no end. Anywho, I thought that Pauline’s take on the use of professional advice was interesting….

Yeah, one bloke they apparently keep arresting, yet from the same article.

A total of 850 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank since Hamas’s brutal attack inside Israel on October 7, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club. They are said to include lawmakers, prominent figures, journalists, and former detainees who have served extended terms in Israeli jails.

.....
There's also a coupla hundred who've been killed in the past coupla weeks, I don't know whether being shot counts as being arrested.

Well, they only named one, which has been confirmed, and the source for that number is the Israeli security agencies, so I'm reluctant to accept that on face value alone, particularly given multiple reports from multiple sources stating popping something into your socials is enough to get you arrested as a "Hamas sympathiser".

What you've got is Israel acting as a complete police state within the occupied territories, and any merkin who is Palestinian considered remotely subversive to that is gonna be hunted and named a terrorist.

Why are they doing this ?

Because they can and will act with impunity, and they are fearful that what they are doing will escalate into a regional conflict, these steps are both preemptive and a warning to those states to stay in f**king line.

Oh, by the way, those US aircraft carriers stationed off the coast, they aint there for any other reason than to warn those states that if they f**k around, they will find out.

Because Iran is supplying weapons via those airports..

I do love the BS the Tweeter is spouting 😂
When you find yourself persona non grata with all of your neighbours and you have to resort to unprovoked attacks on some of them, instead of constantly playing the victim, maybe it's time to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself, "maybe it's me - is there something I could be doing differently to change the situation?"....

Don't really get the above.

But when you host terrorists and get bombed like those 4 countries maybe it's time to look in the mirror.

Though Israel know Lebanon won't react as they have no money. The other countries are worried the USA will get involved.

By the same token, those countries then should be able to target Israeli's given they are housing plenty of "terrorists" of their own no?

Terrorists man ffs it doesn't matter what you want to call them 🤦🏼

Well it does kinda, because Hezbollah is in Lebanon, not Gaza or the West Bank. So attacks that are designed to hurt Hezbollah bring Lebanon further into the conflict, again escalating the situation.
