Miles is easily the worst leader that there’s been since I’ve been up here which is over 30 years. The Corpse of Sir Joh would offer more. I’ve never seen him not put his foot in his mouth when public speaking.
Whats your opinion of the Stadium debacle up there with the olympics hiney.

Seems like a dogs breakfast atm.

2 and half years have gone since Brisbane were awarded the Olympics and seems like everyone up there is freaking out and no clue what they should do. Because its going to cost a bomb.

the fact they didnt even consider using some of the existing infrastructure on the GC used for the Comm Games is criminal and shows it isn't about financial best interests.

I agree its better to spend $3b building a brand new stadium than just re-doing the Gabba if thats the way they want to go, but they could have chucked $400m at Carrara Stadium on the GC and it would have been a fine alternative for track/field/opening ceremony.

The indoor venue at Roma St is a must as the Entertainment Centre is outdated and no where near the city.

never mind, Miles the seat warmer has just announced he is ignoring the $150k review he ordered and will instead not build a new stadium, not touch the gabba, but will drop $1.4b upgrading QE2 stadium that is impossible to get to, and aside from hosting broncos games for a couple of years, has just wasted away since 1982.

Not that i give a flying toss about Queensland.

But surely there was a better option to take over from Palaszczuk then the clown muppet Miles who has the IQ and maturity of a 5 year old.

Covid saved labour in QLD from the last election. The witch up there pulled the parochialism card by locking out NSW during Covid which the idiots up there loved and fell for.
I don't think so. He's the sacrificial lamb.

The It's Time factor will weigh in, Labor have held Queensland for 9+ years, and this guy doesn't seem like an Anna Bligh to land an election win and further 4 years.

Who's the LNP opposition leader? Had to look it up, and it's Crisafulli - never heard of the guy. Does he have a bit of work to do profile wise throughout Queensland?
Crisafulli doesn't really set the voters hearts racing but he's a been given a golden opportunity by the current powers that be.

The ridiculous thing is they are spending what over 8 billion dollar's on all that public transport to head straight to the Gabba. Now they are heading to a wasteland like QE2. I've never seen something handled so badly. Someone told me recently the Gabba will be knock down in the next 10-15 years anyway.

And Suncorp will host the opening and closing ceremonies. I believe the review also stated that the Gabba will need to be demolished at some point in the future (though they never stated when). So far, the Olympics have been a complete clusterf**k and hardly anybody here wants them. A lot of merkins want to withdraw from holding them but we won't be going down the Dan Andrews Commonwealth Games road. That would make QLD/OZ a complete laughing stock on the world stage.

Suncorp and the Gabba with get 'modest' upgrades. This explains it all a lot better for the NSW merkins.

So what upgrades are going to be done to Suncorp.

It would be a dream result for the NRL if the capacity can go up to 60k at Suncorp that's another 10k tickets they can sell for Origin and Magic Round.

Plus the AFL's wet dream was for Vic Park to get the nod so they had a shiny new stadium for the Lions.

So the fact they missed out on that one is great result for this country. They have already blackmailed the Tassie Government into spending a shitload for a ground in Hobart on top of getting Perth and Adelaide oval grounds updated.

It's still a complete f**k up. QSAC will get a whole lot of dollars thrown at it. At the end of the day I feel that the Gabba knockdown/rebuild would blow out well past the 2.7 billion mark if it went ahead. Still, I've heard they're throwing a billion at the Gabba to pretty it up and conform to guidelines before they announce after the Olympics that they're tearing it down.

Here's the statement on it. They've implemented 27 of the 30 recommendations made by Graham Quirk but didn’t want to spent a shitload on his Victoria Park stadium or slightly less than a shitload to go with Ana’s plan to rebuild the Gabba

Shortsighted, politically motivated thinking.

Done right, an Olympic games can provide legacy infrastructure for decades to come. Given the predicted growth in SE QLD, what better time to plan for the future?

The Olympics will use 7 venues on the GC.

You've been around QLD, mate. Get a few k's out of the big smoke and it's like a time warp back to the 70's and they don't give a shit. Here's a case in point. The fires around Stanthorpe late last year had a significant impact on the area including damage to the historic train line between Warwick and Wallangarra. It's a tourist attraction (steam train tour) that draws money to the region that coincides with other events. The cost to repair the line was estimated at 20 million but they canned it recently and closed the line. This is just one other example of short sighted thinking.

When Miles gets turfed in 6 months it will all change again.

If it’s going to cost $3b in 10 years to replace the gabba regardless because its borderline falling apart, then the vic park recommendation is the smartest option as it doesn’t interrupt cricket or afl for 3 years, and has legacy benefits for decades ahead.

Yep. That’s devastating for that region. The dickheads in NSW let the train line south of Wallangarra rot into the ground as well. Such a shame.

My accountant reckon if Trump gets in we'll see interest rates fall here by over 1%
Said we may even get one leading into the election based in the fact he may win.
