Easy, there is already a precedent.

Following the intense coalition-led military campaign, Iraq was forced to withdraw from Kuwait by late February 1991. Iraqi forces set fire to hundreds of Kuwaiti oil wells as they retreated, causing massive environmental and economic damage. However, with the coalition’s success, Kuwait was liberated, and its sovereignty was restored.

After the Gulf War, Kuwait maintained its independence and rebuilt its infrastructure and economy with substantial international assistance. The conflict also influenced regional politics and highlighted the strategic importance of protecting national sovereignty against aggressive invasions. Kuwait remains an independent nation today.
Chalk and cheese, you’ve finally lost the plot.

Saddam didn’t have tactical and strategic weapons, the most powerful non nuclear bombs in the world ( like nukes but without the radiation) a standing army of hundreds of thousands and all the rest.

That kind of warfare would make Israel’s incursion into Gaza look like a slingshot.

And Vlad is a known wildcard, doesn’t play by rules.

The ukkies are lucky Vlad is patient.

oh dear ..... Saddam/Iraq/shitty military vs Putin/Russia/nukes ....... glad you aren't running anything

the merkins pulling sleepy joe's strings clearly showed they don't want to put US troop live at risk .... that doesn't win you voters back home ....... and going to war with Russia isn't trivial
Well clearly if you were running things, you would be a pussy and hand Vlad whatever he wants. That’s what the cold war was all about, threats and standing up to their bullshit.

I am a pacifist as much as anyone, but there are times you need to fight for whats right. Merkins like Russia taking slabs of land because it suits them doesn’t work for me.

I never said it wasn’t chalk and cheese. But the world needs to stand up to tyrants. Not roll over to them because we fear altercation. That plays into their hands.

You’re prepared to wipe out the planet, that’s simply delirious.

Gronky, we can’t always get what we want.

I’ve got kids, I don’t want them turning into crusty shadows on the porch because the west wanted to put one over Putin.

He simply can’t accept a threat to his first strike capability. He warned us many times. We pushed ahead anyway.

Because the west has rubbish strategists, bad intel and a hawkish and dangerous stance with regards to Russia.

Finally America gets it and hopefully a settlement can be reached.

Well mate, you might was well hand over everything to Lex Luthor, because the cucks are not prepared to fight for what’s right. They cave in to every threat.

China can take anything they want too I guess ?

Do you really think the west should’ve provoked Putin?

A lot of this mess is at our feet.

I don’t let like Vlad, but I accept the Russians have an interest in having peaceful neighbours.

If you seek to tip the balance too far, you’re inviting trouble.

Anyway, Trump is our best chance of ending the killing.

I wish him well with it.

He’s to be respected for good things he does and condemned for the bad things depending on our take.

Ok you just painted the west as being the bad guys. We should have let Vlad be Vlad. Now look what we’ve done.

We’ve been over this. Trump will give Putin what he was always striving for and the propaganda machine will frame it as a huge win for the human race. Trump the Peacemaker. Ukraine? Oh well, it’s really a big country and …. don’t a lot of them speak Russian anyway ? So can they still join NATO ? No, that’s not allowed because …… reasons. Vlad’s reasons.

In 2016, Trump won the electoral college against Hillary with a 306-232 margin but lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million. Biden then mirrored this result in 2020, defeating Trump 306-232 and securing the popular vote by a similar margin. Now, in 2024, Trump wins with 312-226 and wins the popular vote by 3.7 million—a remarkable turnaround and an official landslide victory.

Is that right ? So if there wasn’t a 5% swing away from the LNP in the 2022 election and just a 0.76 swing away from Labor and LNP were re-elected, then are you saying that their economic management would have circumvented or even dulled the inflation spike that caused all this cost of living kerfuffle ? It was their economic policies that set the trajectory.

We are the best economic managers! Smoke and mirrors. It’s a political fallacy. Modern LNP increases debt and fudges balance sheets by selling off paddocks of the farm. Repeat.

WTF are you on about? We're talking about the US. In Australia, woke vs the economy still isn't the issue, and so it hasn't really been easy (or necessary) to split the parties. The LNP isn't yet the party of the working class the way the Republican party is.

You need to do better with your analogies.

There you go, 4 days in and Trump is already carving up Ukraine.

Crimea has been Russian ever since it was inhabited by a majority of ethnic Russians. Horse trading during the Soviet era made it notionally Ukrainian. I think Ukraine needs to cut its losses and consolidate wherever the majority of people identify as Ukrainian. Fix the borders, join NATO and end Russian influence in the country. Unfortunately it means abandoning the ethnic Ukrainians within Crimea to Russia.

Freeing Kuwait required a US invasion, which Iraq had no counter for. Meanwhile Russia has plenty up its sleeve to keep rivals out of Ukraine. They have already threatened nuclear retaliation. Apples and oranges.

^^^^^ anything less than that, then agressors can just take what they want because they know that pussies will roll over.
The CCP is pretty certain we will blink first regarding Taiwan as well. I personally think they're right. The West has no appetite for the kind of losses we might incur if we really put our foot down in Ukraine or Taiwan.
