No it doesn't, the point I'm addressing is that you claimed DFAT called the election for Harris / Biden, which did not happen ( at least not publicly ).

Do you understand the difference between the comments made by an individual like a year ago vs. the position and assessment of the department of the election?

This has nothing to do with whether or not DFAT called as you claim.

interestingly, the pardon explicitly goes back to Jan 1, 2014 ..... but his USA prosecution is for things that supposedly happened in 2016-2019 (tax evasion) and 2018 lying to buy a gun (lol - i'm sure you could get half the country for that)

I wonder why specifically back to 2014? ..... I wonder what happened in 2014?

ROBERT HUNTER BIDEN

A Full and Unconditional Pardon

For those offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024

Zlochevsky, who founded Burisma in 2002, served as a minister under Ukraine’s then-President Viktor Yanukovich from 2010 to 2012. Burisma then began adding high-profile names to its board, including Biden and a business associate of his called Devon Archer, in April 2014.

Just incase I guess ..... "or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024"

Mate, has any of this actually affected you in any way beyond reading about it and getting pissed off?

Like has anyone stopped you or made it difficult for you to spend the day as you please.

I really couldn't care less, it's a day off for me, that's it, but from what I see plenty of merkins are out there doing whatever shit they do and having a good time regardless of the outrage machine.
Well i am proud Australian and would celebrate the day if its on February 26 or July 26.

And no it doesn't affect me i celebrate where ever the world takes me on that day weather at its home, beach, pub, bars or a mates place.

My point is every Australia Day now has become a divisive day for this country that is getting worse every year.

And the general sentiment is your made to feel guilty for celebrating the day.

If it's changed i would appreciate the change and be happy to celebrate another day as much January 26.

My honest opinion is it's going to be changed eventually.

So the sooner the politicians pull there dicks out and come up with solution so the country can move forward a bit more peacefully the better.

I'm sure you'll find out, after a night well spent on some of those trustworthy youtube channels... something to do with pizza or semen stains (or both), no doubt 😂?

It’s all a complete nothing burger.
I have not looked into the pardon, but it did come as a surprise.

I will wait for legal analysis, however I do know this; once pardoned it cannot be re-tried by any new evidence or reversed by a new president.

I bet you $1 that there were mutterings around Capital Hill they they planned to put Hunter away for a long time, just because.

Personally, I get that you can pardon a turkey at Thanks Giving and maybe even pardon someone who was sentenced never to be released for good behaviour. However this mates rates BS in America has become a bit of a joke.

It will be interesting to see how many of the Jan 6 merkins get pardoned late Jan.

Thank f**k we have separation of the judiciary and the executive branches in Australia.

Re your first point. Yes it has and yes it is.

Your second point is on you. You don't have to feel guilty if you believe in the day.

Your third point is valid. This is what shits me about this country at times. We allow debates like this to go on forever, yet there is a really simple solution. And that is, to just find a day that would re-unite us all. Surely, it can't be that hard.
I don't know what day that would be, but my simpleton view would be to pick a January 1st in any year soon, call it Australia United Day. A New Year and a new beginning.
How about Jan 1st 2028? 250 years after colonisation?
I dunno, just thinking out aloud.

We should do what other former English colonies do and celebrate the day that we became independent from Britain

Since we don't want to do that we should just celebrate on April 23rd which is St George's day (England patron saint)

The fact that a reigning President can pretty much "pardon" anyone he likes tells us all what a f**ked system the Yanks have.
I just got off the phone to a brother of mine who was raging about this and thinks that if we become a republic, that we'll have the same laws.
FMD.
No matter how much explaining I do, one just cannot help the uneducated.

Why would you allow that kind of dumb shit to f**k with your day? It literally has zero effect if you ignore it.

And it's not even as if they're "banning" it, they're choosing not to celebrate it in their venues, hey free country and all that shit.

Should they be forced to celebrate it by a bunch of merkins who decide to get upset about it because woke is bad or some shit?

Yeah, like I said, to me it's just a day off. If people wanna get all upset because some merkins don't wanna role play super patriot man for a day that's their f**king problem.

You have to either live in a town with no electricity or internet to not be effected by what's splattered all over the web...

f**k that. I'm not giving up a public holiday to combine Australia Day with New Year's Day.

Pick a date later in the year, around late August when there's bugger all other public holidays and we could do with a day off.... I'm sure they could find a valid reason that could justify it being that time of year...

That might sound like an insensitive or flip remark but it's pragmatic and sensible IMO. I mean no disrespect. If we're looking for actual meaningful dates then I'm certain every month of the year would have 5+ days that could be justified commemorating first nations folk in someway or other.

Pointless having a public holiday on 23 April and then another one 2 days later....

Sorry mate, but yes, I find that insensitive.
I'm looking for a day that might unite the country, not another day when you would like another day off work.
I just threw a suggestion out there. I'm hope we can all decide a day that we can all agree on.
Jan 26 is currently not that day.

That's my point. Nobody seems to have a clue on what day is best to represent that "unification day". So why make it January 1 when we're already celebrating New Year's Day? Better to make it September 1 and find justification somewhere/somehow...cause inevitably we'll end up with people cracking the shits because at dawn on the morning of "Unification Day" on January 1, there will be hundreds of pissed backpackers and locals sleeping off hangovers at beaches across the city and it'll be deemed "disrespectful" and around and around the outrage will go again...
