The NDIS was introduced by the Gillard government. In that government Albo held a senior ministerial portfolio and was Leader of the House (managing shit and ensuring legislation passed). At the time, she led a minority government and it was Albo who secured the cross bench support.

Not all, but from my perspective he's better than the alternative. But I only get 1 vote and you know as well as me that PM's get blamed for all sorts of shit that's out of their control.

I'll tell you what I really think the Labour Party has f**ked up and that's NDIS reform and that's coming from personal experience as someone who works in the sector.

I'm not sure what those reforms entail but from what I've been told by people I know who are either on NDIS or worked in a sharehouse about 1 hour south of your location that is funded by NDIS, major reform was needed.

A bloke I know who has a $100 000 annual allocation could only get a few pairs of shoes, a pair of glasses and a mattress out of them over 2 yrs. If you saw the itemised bill that his prover charged the gov for (that insisted he be supplied with) you mind might boggle.
Like charging over $200 for a 2 min phone call etc etc ad nauseum.
There was and probably still is soooo much rorting of that NDIS that reforms were highly necessary.

I won't speak about the sharehouse as I don't want to compromise future employment of someone dear to me but.. massive rorts there too.

Yes there's some rorting. A lot of waste and duplication too. Just some of the reform measures put into place are either window dressing or have had negative unintended consequences. The whole scheme got too big too quickly.

His previous case manager accidentally sent him a text saying if you give me (insert name here) account, I will buy you a brand new Mercedes and reiterated that they were deadly serious. Geez it must have open to some spectacular rorting.

The NDIA allowed many people to self manage their funding, as opposed to invoices getting paid directly through the NDIA. There was no oversight and no accountability. Not everyone did the wrong thing, but some went to town. It makes me sad because the scheme is so needed and when it works it can make a massive difference to a disabled person's quality of life.

I hear what your saying but I believe the self management was bought in to counter the systemic rorting by the providers themselves.
If some disabled persons went to town then good on em I say.
When your provider is going to town and denying you what you are entitled to, that is a whole different kettle of fish.
If it's going to happen, I'd much rather see Joe f**ked back do it than his case manager who is already on a decent contract/wage.

That’s not entirely correct and I should have been clearer in saying that self management allowed providers to access funding easier and with less oversight. It’s also far for the only problem. Anyway it’s a mess that needs fixing no doubt about that.

A small oversight committee with harsh penalty for corruption should be all that it takes to stamp it out. The savings to the Aussie taxpayer would be enormous.

Surely the dumbest of merkins would understand that a deduction in fuel costs has a massive effect on cost of everything that requires transportation ... which is literally everything.

It is a legit aid to cost of living.
