The government has legislated to cut the lowest tax rate — which applies to income between $18,201 and $45,000 — by one percentage point in the middle of next year, making it 15 per cent, and another percentage point a year after that, ultimately bringing it down to 14 per cent.

Because of the way Australia's tax system is structured, those savings will flow through even if you earn well above the $45,000 threshold, meaning every worker will pay less tax under the changes.

For a worker earning $45,000 or more a year, the value of the cut will be $268 in the first year and $536 in the following years. The savings are smaller for people under that threshold: people earning $30,000 a year will only get $118 in year one and $236 after that.

Dutton’s fuel relief will be good, but it’s only going to be for 12 months and then it’s going to hit families like a sledge hammer.

I still have a problem with handouts that are not targeted. There are people like me who dont need discounts at the bowser. There are people who pay high rents, need help but can’t afford to own a car on top of all that. They miss out. I know not everyone can get benefit, but you are throwing unnecessary cash at so many who don’t need it and some low income earners are missing out.

Anyway your guy Dutton is clear fav, so all this is moot.

The thing is $5-$10 a week is going to do what to help anyone?
If it was say $50 a week then I'd say yes that will help households.
I think a better system would be at Tax time people earning between 45k under 65k get $1,000 bonus
People 18k-45k and 65k-80k get $650.

Everyone else misses out. Not that over 80k is heaps but it's not struggle street
I'm happy to sacrifice my $5-$10 a week for people battling. Without sounding like a TWAT really what's $10 to me?

A usual Gronk post I have 3 grandsons that have all come out of plumbing and building apprenticeships, and not to upset your cheer squad for Albo, they want the petrol discount as they travel all over Sydney and to Wollongong and Newcastle, not the derisory $5 a week in 18 months that Albo and Gomer Pyle are trying to bribe the electorate with.
So they're purely self-interested then? Fair enough... LNP will be a nice match for those blokes.

It’s not what I think, you bellend. Successive governments have needed to recruit unskilled migrants and train them up to fill the job shortages in these sectors. Industry is crying out and they are acting accordingly.

You just called them Pov jobs ffs

Shit gotcha, you had done better in the past. Clearly Aussies think that these jobs are beneath them. Same with those who work in the gig economy. Maybe you should be making social commentary about the emerging generations that are steering clear of these opportunities.

Ah yes, i remember you calling out the same about Albos electricity handout ..... oh wait, no
Three things here. First, the coalition have always supported the Energy Relief Bill and it was passed unopposed. Dutton has confirmed this week that it will continue under his watch. Second, it is means tested. So households must meet specific eligibility criteria, such as holding relevant state or Commonwealth concessions or receiving Family Tax A or B benefits. Thirdly, derp.

I dunno what your point is. Im not complaining about the electricity thing. Im just pointing out it is for a time period - just like the fuel excise is limited .... then its up to the govt to extend or not.

Its not means tested. Every merkin is getting $75 a quarter. And now he extended it for 6 months more.

Keeps the economy rolling. Giving it everyone on an ongoing basis through lowering tax (once it starts) is better for that than just giving the same amount only to vehicle drivers alone, and just for 12 months.

It's pointless. Wtf is $5 going to do when inflation is 3.5%
Stop spinning it like it's a great incentive. It simple isn't. It's a fools trick. Your bias but you're not a fool

I'm comparing it to the Dutton alternate proposal - I'm not trying to say that it's going to bring down inflation or national debt!

Are you f**king serious? Albosleazy pushed the Voice referendum at EVERY opportunity. You may have the memory of a goldfish but the electorate does'nt.

What's half a billion dollars anyway it's not like that money could have been used for anything better.... Plus that division is great for the country..

Albo should have been thrown in the bin by his own party after that failure
