The government has legislated to cut the lowest tax rate — which applies to income between $18,201 and $45,000 — by one percentage point in the middle of next year, making it 15 per cent, and another percentage point a year after that, ultimately bringing it down to 14 per cent.
Because of the way Australia's tax system is structured, those savings will flow through even if you earn well above the $45,000 threshold, meaning every worker will pay less tax under the changes.
For a worker earning $45,000 or more a year, the value of the cut will be $268 in the first year and $536 in the following years. The savings are smaller for people under that threshold: people earning $30,000 a year will only get $118 in year one and $236 after that.

Dutton’s fuel relief will be good, but it’s only going to be for 12 months and then it’s going to hit families like a sledge hammer.
I still have a problem with handouts that are not targeted. There are people like me who dont need discounts at the bowser. There are people who pay high rents, need help but can’t afford to own a car on top of all that. They miss out. I know not everyone can get benefit, but you are throwing unnecessary cash at so many who don’t need it and some low income earners are missing out.
Anyway your guy Dutton is clear fav, so all this is moot.
The thing is $5-$10 a week is going to do what to help anyone?
If it was say $50 a week then I'd say yes that will help households.
I think a better system would be at Tax time people earning between 45k under 65k get $1,000 bonus
People 18k-45k and 65k-80k get $650.
Everyone else misses out. Not that over 80k is heaps but it's not struggle street
I'm happy to sacrifice my $5-$10 a week for people battling. Without sounding like a TWAT really what's $10 to me?
