Its a human emotional thing. You are turning something sincere from men and women who fought for freedom into a nationalistic, racist load of codswollop. My father caught end of war in Pacific .always credited bomb with saving his life Married an American . I had American Uncles served in Pacific , thousands of miles from their home . risked everything fighting for same thing as their Australian ,Canadian Kiwi, Indian , counterparts . Freedom and justice . My father never attended anzac ceremonies because of the disrespect often bordering on contempt ,to American allies . Sure, like all large groups of humans ,especially in such circumstances there were A*se*oles. There were also a lot of very good people risked and gave their, (that's how its spelled ) LIVES so you and I and our families could have a shot of a fair and honest society based on Freedom , Equality , and Justice, for ALL. I have my hand on my heart in saying this .

I hate the bastardisation of Anzac Day from sporting bodies like ours. Anzac Day is celebrated on the 25TH of April, anything else is just cashing in on a moment of great sacrifice in history (our story)

I've kicked up a stink about this previously and have been shot down for it. I don't care, to me it's a f**king disgrace.

I hope that's what you are getting at Stake?

I mean this with respect to our fellow posters as I had it pointed out to me years ago by a senior RSL bloke. Anzac Day is not a celebration but a commemoration day.

And I've mentioned it already and many times, I am getting really pissed off with the commercialisation of our commemoration day. People walking around in far can fishing shirt style anzac day shirts. How munch money from this type of shit goes to legacy or local branches of the RSL.

Years ago you just bought a knitted poppy from the RSL ladies to wear on the day. All money going to the branch. Now days you see some pimply faced paid Uni Student type at shop corners flogging off all types of Anzac paraphernalia ..... and dont get me going about the online social media grubs.

And another thing, Anzac Day is on the 25th, not the 21st, 22nd, etc.

I agree. Keep it to the 25th. Everything else seems over the top.

Stake has been given FAR too much latitude this year.

Not to mention his spelling and grammar are worse then ever. Then there's the wild and whacky opinions and high level ridiculous statements.

I don't even think there should be any games on Anzac Day. It's just a money grab for television. Not to mention clear favouritism towards certain teams in giving them games on AD every year. Does no other player or other club have family, friends, wives and/or husbands who served?

Sickening

Remembering the brave things that people do. Our people, Australians and NZ'ers. Having to face things things that were detrimental to ones own, health, wellbeing and existence. Bravery through sacrifice for the sake of the whole, to ultimately lay down your life. Which really happened. Hopefully that sells a few footy games into the future,

ABSOLUTELY only thing ive objected to in previous posts is denigration of other allies sacrifices . Just leave it out . But Anzac day is Anzac day Australian and New Zealand sacrifices for their countries . They are HEROES that took ultimate risk for their fellow countrymen. I never met one i was not in awe of.

I think someone is jealous because the quality of his spreadsheets has dropped considerably.

The pecking order has changed.

Isn't Anzac Day just a day for "tough guy" pissheads to get blind from 4am and then go down the local rsl and aggressively play 2 up till you start a fight with some poor prick minding his own business.

*I know it's not but it's that element that ruins the day for everyone

This will be my third ANZAC day without my father, I took him every year, so he could March, whilst he was never an ANZAC - he was a British Marine - he was part of the allies and naturally was more than welcome , in fact they usually loved the fact and Pom was there, So he would March, which he did with pride.

The day is no longer the same to me, a true commemoration day.

As for the footy, these are the few games of the year I do not watch, not a boycott, I just do other things that day.

To be honest I’ve always been surprised that the armed forces have allowed any sort of ANZAC Day presentation to occur at a sporting ground not on the actual day. There is only one ANZAC Day.

Quigs brings up a very valid point. The NRL Clubs auction off the ANZAC Jersey’s worn by the players. Does any of that go to legacy?

Does the NRL contribute anything to use ANZAC Day as a promotional round?

Pretty accurate - although you forgot the group of blokes who are wearing their relatives medals, yelling at the rsl at 600am as they won’t let them do shots or taking selfies at the memorial.
Flogs the lot of them

I'd like to think there are funds thrown at Legacy otherwise I have the same surprise as you at how there are any sporting events on.

The NRL and TV networks have probably never asked the fans or if they have it would have been water cooler surveys inside the networks and NRL.
