Man gets issued a serious international challenge by Olympic medallist

Man or mouse ... Anthony Mundine has been issued a serious boxing challenge. Will he take it? Source: The Daily Telegraph

ANTHONY Mundine has been called out to fight for the vacant WBA middleweight belt by an Olympic silver medallist from Kazakhstan. Will he 'Man up' or 'mouse out'?

All right Anthony, here's your chance. Ever since you ditched your footy boots for a pair of boxing gloves, we've repeatedly heard how you're "The Man'', you'll beat anyone, anywhere, you're the fastest, the greatest, the blah blah, etc.
Well, here's your chance to prove all us critics wrong.
A little-known boxer from Kazakhstan has called your bluff, promising to fight you in your own backyard and let your family be the judges. He's pledged to knock you out.
The fight will be for the vacant WBA middleweight world title belt, like the type you're always telling all of Australia you're seriously chasing.
So, after telling us all you're as good as Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson and all the other iconic legends of the fight game you've compared yourself to in your mini-Muhammad Ali mimicking manner,The Daily Telegraph wants to issue you a challenge.

The good news, Anthony, is Golovkin is the No.2 WBA middleweight title contender and you'll get to fight for a middleweight world title belt, just like the type of title belts you're always bleating about being good enough to win in five different weight divisions.
The bad news is Golovkin might be born in Kazhakstan, but he's learned the fight craft in Europe, winning all 18 of his professional fights.
Worse still, in 15 of those fights he finished the evening inside the distance by knocking his opponent out.
And the icing on the cake, Golovkin might only have had 18 pro fights, but he won a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics and boasts a wealth of ring smarts.
He's done all of his fighting, bar one bout in Denmark, in Germany, the same place where Sven Ottke landed that sweet left hook that knocked you out back in 2001.
Golovkin's advisor, Ivaylo Gotzev, has told fightnews.com: "We will fight Mundine on his home turf and win the title if he decides to show up. We don't care if we fight in his backyard.
"Let his family be the judges. When Gennady Golovkin hits him with either hand, nothing else will matter. He will knock Mundine out."
So come on Anthony. After all the ridiculous cases of foot-in-mouth disease where you've told us you're bigger than Don Bradman, Laurie Daley is running on old legs and Johnny Raper is yesterday's man, here's your shot to erase it all.
Bring a decent fight to Australia and beat a credible opponent.
Yes, you're the no.1 rated boxer in the WBA middleweight division right now. Guess what, Golovkin is no.2. If you're for real, you have to take this fight.
So. Are you a man or a mouse? Could this be the silence of ''The Man''?

This is what was said when Antwon Echles challenged mundine, the media said mundines scared to fight him bla bla ...it will never happen because mundines all talk bla bla...but mundine beat him by unamious decision
Than same story with Danny Green, mundine whipped him to.
Sam Soliman ,at the time, ranked in the top 5 of the middleweight division in the world, but aGain mundine silence the media and use all,he knocked soliman out cold.
Wait theres more.......Daniel Geale, ranked number 3 in the middleweight division....Mundine also beat him
So i dont get why the bloke doesnt get the respect he deserves?
And sure he wasnt the greatest league player, but one of the greatest entertainers for sure....whens the last time u seen players doing back flips and front flips after scoring tries?......not since Mundine/Blacklock
Soo just shhhhhh yeah

Is he even still boxing? I know boxers have long layoffs between bouts but seriously was his last fight the one vs Green?
Thing is as good as Golovkin's amateur record is, amateur and professional boxing are very different, and except Makarov he hasn't faced anyone of note as a professional

Realistically the loss to Siaca and outboxing Green were his only notable fights. When he lost to Siaca my opinion changed about his ability but he never went on with it. In the lead up he beat Thornberry, Echols and Nishizawa who were a touch above what we usually see him fight. But then in the lead up to the Kessler fight he fought nobodies and lost convincingly to Kessler, and I think that's where he falls down, he fights amateur class boxers who aren't going to hurt him, not realising when he fights a Siaca or Kessler or if he ever does a Bika these guys aren't going to dance around with him with jabs, they will fully work him around

this article is a joke to be honest.
antwon echols. Media said would knock mundine out.
danny green. Made danny look embarrassing.
Sam soliman knocked him out and sam couldnt get a hand on him

Boxers at the top of the food chain dont need to take fights that are a risk to there career

People can rave about green. He fought a guy who was 40 years old & got in a lucky punch. At the end of the day Mundine gets to sit back & do what he wants while we all go to work everyday trying to get ahead

I agree with these bits however is Mundine top of the food chain? Why doesn't he fight Sylvester, Sturm or Pavlik? Why doesn't he move back up to super middleweight? Because noone wants to fight him. Not because they're scared of him but because Mundine doesn't draw a crowd outside Australia and why fight Mundine in Australia when most boxers will get better money in America and Europe.

I'm not a massive fan of Green either but at least he was able to draw Jones & Siaca. Compare those 2 to Mundine's last opponents, Alejandro Falliga & Deadly Rob Medley

I think it's funny that Mundine talked down Jeff Fenech for fighting taxi drivers from Thailand, then himself decides to fight coal miners from Newcastle.

Danny green did not lose alot of weight to fight mundine. He had been fighting that weight class the previous 10 fights but everyone has to make a excuse because he got embarrassed that night in the ring.

In regards to beale. That fight could have gone either way I think it was a draw at best & in my opinion the only reason mundine got the decision was because he was judged to have knocked down beale in the 4th or 5th round i think. Thats what helped him.

I believe mundine drew siacca here first & as for jones. Its because he was given 12 million to fight him win lose or draw. Green only made 2 million that fight. It was for the money not because he was a big name.

People hate him for the wrong reason & its only because he talks bullcrap but unfortunately the people that hate him are the same people that pay to watch him & go to pubs to watch pay per view. So he's alot smarter than what everyone gives him credit for.

Yes but my point still stands, since he fought Siaca, he lost badly to Kessler and outsmarted Green... and that's it. Yet he still talks it up despite obviously not taking any actual fights. Sakio Bika challenged him straight after winning the Contender and Mundine wanted nothing of it, despite the fact with the TV interest around Bika, Mundine could have made a stack. The main Europeans way back when caught on quick, Ottke and Kessler declined rematches and unsurprisingly he never even asked Calzaghe. You're right, he's smart but in answer to the thread title he is obviously a cat and obviously just in the sport for the money. Jimmy Braddock would be turning in his grave

Isn't Mundine supposed to fight the winner of the 'Contender'? Has that happened already, or going to happen?

IIRC Mundine pulled out because he couldn't make the weight. It's still on though later in the year.

Australian Contender winner Garth Wood tackles former Queensland super middleweight champion William Hadlow as he waits for his prize of a fight with Mundine later in the year.
