I read an interesting article about an NRL player last week which mentioned the minimum wages for an NRL player a) In the top 17 and b) in the top 25.

The player interviewed, Craig Stapleton of the Panthers, falls into the b) category

Does anyone here know what those figures are?

It'll probably surprise quite a few people.

Stapelton was on the footy show on the weekend and was picked up by pennies for a paltry $37500 ayear. The player asociation is trying to get the minimun wage up to 50 grand but the nrl wants 45 grand .
Accordind to the interview with stapeton.
Langy reckons any player in a full time sqaud should be getting at least 70 grand a year min.

Ball park guess:-
top 25 approx 40K
top 17 approx 55K

Damn close.

T25 = $37500 as bluey said Stapo is on
T17 = $55000

Makes for a lot of disparity.

I agree with you there Frenzy.

That makes Gasnier, with his $800,000 per year next season, 21.33 times better than the NRLs worst player, who you would expect to be on the minimum wage of $37,500. Whomever that may be.
Is he that much better?
Joey probably is.

Gaznier on $800 000 a year is definatly worth it.

Look at his stats.

Look at his body frame

the man is made for being the best in the business. I supose he'll be round for a long time to come, and we succeed joey as the worlds best

I don't think any player is worth $800k not even Johns, it is a game for f**k sake.
at $20 per head a crowd increase of 3,000 per home game would be needed to cover the wage.

He'll never be the best. I agree that he's a good player, but the Dragons have been dudded by having Gaz take up so much of the cap...he's nowhere near worth that kind of money. Once they start playing him at 5/8 he'll prove that he's not worht 800k. He's a fantastic centre...but the Dragons will look the fool for taking on a single player for that kind of money.

When you say worst player I think I know what you mean but it doesn't even have to be the worst player. I wouldn't say Stapo is the worst player getting about.

Anyway, here's the exact wording of the current CBA

RLPA - CBA said:
“The agreement provides minimum wages for all players. So a kid who makes it into the top 25 must now be paid at least $37,500. Players in the top 17 must be paid at least $55,000. Young players not in the top 25 but are required to play and train in the NRL squad receive $2,000 per match and $150 per day to compensate for loss normal day time earnings.”

Yeah sorry about that Frenzy. Gaz would have to 21.33 times a better player than anyone on the $37,500.

Big call isn't it.

Fuggen big call. Gaz, IMO, would be lucky to be 2.133 times better than the greatest dud running around. EVen the biggest dud is good enough to make it to the NRL.

By the way.

For anyone interested the complete agreement is available for download at the link I'll provide below.

It's an interesting read IMO because it casts some insight into things like why some clubs breach the cap in small amounts, players rights, why clubs don't promote players in a hurry (probably applies to us)

or as a PDF of the actual stamped agreement.

Are we talking after tax?? Gaz would be taxed at least 48 cent to the dollar which brings the fiqure right down.

Don't know with Gaz but the RLPA figures are gross annual salaries.
