Warriors fret over McKinnon

By staff writers
February 20, 2008
WARRIORS full-back Wade McKinnon could miss the entire 2008 National Rugby League season after scans revealed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
McKinnon, a revelation in his first season for the Auckland-based club in 2007, left the field with a knee injury midway through the first half of last Friday night's pre-season fixture against Newcastle in Auckland.
Club doctor John Mayhew said the problem had not appeared to be serious at the time or during a medical check the following day.
"Our assessment was that Wade would be ready to play again in three or four weeks,'' he said.
"But the results of the scans took us by surprise. On the basis of what we've seen now, it's almost certain Wade will need a knee reconstruction and that would put him out for the season.''
Mayhew said knee specialist Barry Tietjens would operate on McKinnon next week.

Poor bugger. I had a quick chat with him on Fan Day and he seemed really hyped for the season.

I think that if very harsh. You always wanna play against the best squad a team can offer. The Warriors will loose a bit of direction this year with Wade missing IMO.

I'd quite happily play an injury ravaged side in a grand final. Tight comp, take every advantage you can.

Better them than us. ;-)

Disappointing for Wade on a personal level however it lessens their impact against all teams, including us. Most teams will breath a sigh of relief that the main threat is now just Price at the Warriors. (Sure they have others but Price and McKinnon were fantastic for them last year).

Most teams would feel sorry for the player but if we were to lose Hindmarsh, Hayne or Inu for a long time they wouldn't be too upset and offer to play us when they were fit.

Massive loss for the Warrior's, as someone mentioned besides Price he was easily their best player last yr. Hopefully he will make a complete recovery.

Isn't that Ah Vahn that dude that has always had pathetic hands. If so, fullback will really test him.

Unlucky for Wade.
