 Good luck mate.

I know it probably doesn't help at the moment, but I can't even remember my parent-teacher nights all these years later. Important at the time to you, your folks, and your teachers... but don't stress too much about it.

Just do the best you can in the coming exams, that's the key message to take out of the interviews... just do the very the best you can the next six months. Everything else can and will wait.

who cares mate school is a waste of time after year 10, you should have left then and got a job, saved the money and you would have a nice starting account for future investing.

I never used to tell me mum about parent teacher interviews until after they'd be been done and she'd missed out. The plan was foolproof.

Always remember the old saying

"Those that can, do...Those that can't, teach."

Do you really care what a bunch of adults who couldn't handle the real world outside of the school system think about you?

...and if all else fails and you stuff up your HSC exams you can always become a school teacher, the scores required are usually lower than just about any of the university courses offered!!

Haha, I actually agree with most of that.

Except in my case. I signed up out of duty to my community. Having a totally awesome TER didn't phase me. I could have easily gained a place in an Economics degree (2nd in the State, people!) but the idea of being an arsehole to hundreds of minors every day just appealed to me a little bit more.

Having said that...it's doubtful that you could do the job. I mean, most of the teachers in the system can't do a good job and the average Joe off the streets (or internet forum) wouldn't have the faintest idea what was actually required. Not to mention the fact that they'd probably sh*t themselves the first time they were given an actual class.

Let's not also forget the welfare involved in the job (although, funnily enough, most teachers actually do forget that as often as they possibly can).

Remember the old saying - "Those that don't have a chance in Hell always use old sayings to cover their arses."

Electricians should know mathematics, too, boy. Most especially if you want to own your own business and not have to pay someone else to do the numbers.

If terrible spelling and grammar like that used in the passage quoted above is normal for you then I could have saved your parents a trip to school last night and told them that you need your arse whipped into gear.

You know, this whole, "Oh, I'm going to be a <insert profession here>, so I don't need maths!" mindset is incorrect and just totally ludicrous.

If you're a police officer, for example, you may not need to use integration on a daily basis. But you do need to understand basic geometry and arithmetic.

If you're a novellist-to-be, you may not need to use calculus. But again - a simple understanding of arithmetic is crucial.

As for an electrician not needing to know maths...Personally, if I were to see an electrician whose attitude was, "I don't need maths!" that person would be the last person I would hire. I mean what would be the point - if you can't understand how voltage is calculated (OK, so it's technically physics, but physics and maths go hand-in-hand), why would I hire you?

Yes, I have ended my rant here - but my point remains valid, and I shan't be ending my somewhat subdued rage here. No, sir - this isn't over!
