Iggy, an average top class union game has about 40 mins of actual play in it, so you're right on that part, but the average top class league game only has 5 - 10 mins more. League takes up 20 mins a game on goal kicking. At least in union there's a limit of a 1min 30 secs from when the try is scored, which is never gone over.
But by your second definition, surely you'd be a very passionate AFL fan? There's a lot of running and kicking and it's pretty flowing with a few stoppages in it.
Rugby Union is not a hard game to understand. It really isn't and anyone who thinks it is is about as intelligent as two bricks. If you know league than it shouldn't take more than a game or two to pick up Rugby Union.
How hard is it to understand. Rugby League is a game about using the possession you have, while Rugby Union is a game about first winning possession and then using that possession. It's not difficult.
