OUR ATTACK HAS NO SHARPNESS AND IS TOO SLOW!

Our attack since we lost PJ Marsh, J Smith has been pedestrian and we are too big in the forwards making us even slower than than last year

I cannot beleive Smithy does not say 'sorry i made an error- bigger is not the way to go but faster. fitter and mobile is the trend now!'

Please someone admit he has made a gigantic error in his coaching
no other club has agreed with him Stuart at the start of the year said that he did not base his game tactics on size trends, and the dogs have always been mobile and sharp first and foremost and then a bit of size.

GAME FIRST what did you think of Shane Dunley last year? I thought he gave us the sort of impact out of dummy half we had been missing since PJ & Drew left us. He's very injury prone but I would have liked to have seen him retained ahead of Webster :?

But what are you basing it on?

Cannings played not even 3 games for us this year; did you see him at Manly?

Not only is he a metre-monster, but he has strong defence and quite a bit of pace for a big man, too.

Tsoulos is another metre-monster who hits hard and generally gets over the advantage line. Plus he has a great offload.

Then add Stapleton, Peek, Vella and Armit into the mix - quick, agile, and mobile props.

Our forwards haven't fired too well, I agree.

But is that a good enough reason to say that bigger isn't better?

I think when we have our entire forward pack back (including Cannings and Cayless) we will be a much better attacking team than we are now.

I also think big strong guys are good in attack - especially close to the line.

According to Smith, Cannings is one of the fastest players at the club so once he gets on the park he should make a lot of metres. We're lacking attacking options though, yes. We need some spark off a bench player, we were getting that with Marhs and Dunley but we don't seem to have that at the moment. Webster offers very little.

Parraren, i thought Dunley was effective in short bursts, but his fitness and composure against good sides was not there.
His attack was sharp and he just went for it -more of our players should be doing this-going harder in attack and not passing sideways but going for gaps straight and hard- hog the ball if need be- no-one is doing it now.

Didnt he score a barnstorming try in one of the trials?

I think Widders can give us that spark off the bench. We want our halves on the field for 80 minutes.

Johnny Morris is also a 80 minute player.

Used in short bursts, I think Widders can be extremley effective against a tiring defence......both breaking the line and offloading.

well, Dunley went OK last year but didnt exactly have clubs knocking on his door and is now struggling to get into the Eagles side.

I think the way the game is played nowdays it is critical to have effective dummy half runners. Quick meters made arond the ruck are really crucial to getting a side moving forward and putting pressure on the oppositions defense. I like Johnny Morris but he seems to be more of a ball distributer than a ball runner. Alot of people (myself included) also think Johhny is arguably better suited to 5/8th than hooker.

Personally I'd like to see us use 2 QUALITY hookers again much like we did through 2001 with Drew & PJ Marsh. It's a 17 man game nowdays and there is no shame in starting a game from the bench. Craig Wing was used off the bench effectively during the Roosters run to Grand Final success in 2002 and is still used off the bench in State Of Origin despite being one of the best players running around. I'd love to see us go after Mark Riddell and use him in rotation with Morris out of dummy half. I think it could be a lethal combination of ball running and ball distribution that could really get us going forward.

The rumour mill has Riddell linked closely with the Roosters (no surprises there) and Souths who have reportedly made a very big offer for him. What do you guys think? Would you throw some money pig's way?

I'll go out on a limb here and say Pig is probably next to Johns as the most important player coming off contract. Throw him half the leagues club!!!

Petero Civoniceva is off contract as well according to Brisbane at least. I know we chased him before but IMO if we want go forward.....

eelevation I wouldn't exactly throw the leagues club at pig but he'd be amongst my priority signings along with Glenn Morrison. I reckon we've got around $950,000 to spend next year and about $1.2m if we release Lyon. That should be more than enough to attract 3-4 high profile players to the club and have some left over to upgrade contracts and/or re-sign one or two (max) coming off contract.

1. Morrison
2. Riddell
3. Quality Centre (if Lyon doesn't come back or else a quality front rower)
4. Quality Winger

I'm hearing strong rumours about Utai & Tahu but I guess we won't know anything until June 30 at least.
