Our attack

I just looked a bit further into our attack.

VS Top 8 teams - 11 tries in 7 matches
VS teams outside the Top 8 - 38 tries in 11 matches

Our pet play of hitting Yeo and CHN with a short ball simply doesn't cut it against well drilled defensive line ups.

We need to mix it up. Get some early ball to our centres, use Edwards out the back and put some grubbers in to keep the defence sitting back so they can't rush us all the time.

Whether Griffin can adapt his style halfway through the season could be the difference between us making the 8 and missing it.

Blake has been mammothly underused this season. With or without Moylan at 6.

I say this every week to my mates.

He is our most devastating ball carrier but we are incapable of devising a plan to get him the ball.

We need to keep this but mix in a cut out to the centre/wing along with playing direct with the inside ball around the ruck. Throw in some offloads and BOOM we are a very dangerous team.

Wow.

Didn't enjoy reading those numbers. But it tells a story. Don't let me see how many tries we concede for those categories.

He gets 4 touches a game.

Absolutely shits me. As good as Yeo is at running lines, Blake needs to get the ball out wide. Hell against Cowboys it might have won us the game. Yeo decided to drop more ball than he caught which is rare.

I think Moylan will get him more involved. He will learn that the shortball to Yeo is predictable and mix it up.

For Blake to get involved we need to change the way we attack.

We stand too flat for the ball to get to our centres before the defence gets to us.

Not sure exactly why we don't use Blake more, but we had that game (can't remember against who) where we threw 2 intercepts. I know Bryce was guilty of one. Maybe they have got a bit field shy after that.

I certainly agree with OldPanther in that if we used more of the Storm outside-inside with Edwards, with the option of cutting Yeo to hit Blake, would create many opportunities instead of just hitting CHN or Yeo.

Agree with everything said, just would be nice to mix it up now and again.

My stats man has provided me with some gold this morning.

This is for the whole 2017 season to date.

Cleary's passes to centres:

Blake - 6
Peachey -10
Whare - 8

It works for DCE at times. Though they have variations with his kicking game etc. Yeo is great but he's been dropping that pass all year. I hope it sticks more. CHN isn't having the same issue.

That doesn't sound good for 3/4 of a season. I bet the back row has double.

Is your stats man able to get an average or some kind of benchmark for other halves in the NRL?

Is yeo's improvement deceiving us?

Seems like all that ball he's getting is at the expense of Blake.

I know I complain about Griffin a lot but it's dumbfounding he hasn't identified & addressed these issues.

Interesting. 3 of those against the Broncos. Meaning we have been held tryless by a top 8 side on what, 6 occasions? That doesn't seem right?

Also if we've played 11 matches v teams outside the top 8 how have we played 22 games?

Another thing our attack needs tweaking is this constant crap of running it on the last, partially inside the opponents 20.
I can sort of understand that maybe the coach is worried about 7 tackle sets if the kick was to go dead. However, I was taught and I still think it applies today. If you can't score points get a repeat set to keep the pressure on. Control the possession.
Something that should be down against the top sides.
I can't remember the exact moment last week but we were attacking the Cowboys line on the last 10 out and the ball goes to Moylan. What does he do? Passed it to Browne.
That needs to change.
