Overachieving?

And the problem is that i don't really seeing our for and against improving. We will certainly win more games but i don't predict any blow out victories. Hopefully i jinx it and Knights win by 70 in the next game.

It is a testament to why Smithy is cleaning the club out. He knows that we are overacheiving and to be frank we may get found out at the back end of the year. If we make the finals it will be great, but truly we should just look to build and stay competitive. I don't think the rumours about player signings are doing the club any good either. Ryles has seemingly disappeared off the map for us. So much for the done deal. Aaron Cannings has been linked to the club but I truly hope we pass on him. He is very lazy. Looking at the way the Titans recruited for their first year, it is quite extraordinary really. First choice side is very solid and well balanced. We would do well to take a leaf out of Searle and Cartwright's book. The way they have looked after Chris Walker is brilliant. I will say it again, but Chris Walker is the biggest waste of talent I have ever seen in this game. That kid has instincts that very few footballers are born with and yet he lacks discipline. Makes me angry. At least now we know why is so erratic. Depression is a very serious thing and the anxiety is crippling. In my line of work I see it everyday.

I don't look at our performance this year as over-achieving. A lot of neutral fans tipped us to make the eight at the start of the year when we had Johns on deck, and we've just continued to perform (most weeks) despite his absence. We've got a good young squad supported by some great players in key positions - and next year we'll have (hopefully) taken out the dead wood and signed some guys who'll lift the condition of the squad to the level required to be genuine premiership threats.

We won't win the competition this year, but I'd take anything less than a top eight appearance as something of a failure. We might not have a team full of household names, but we've got some excellent players and some future internationals coming through.

We're in with a big show to win the premiership - if there's ever been a year when a team can suprise everyone and make the Grand Final after going through 25 rounds with inconsistent performances mixed in with a few drubbings it's this year.

The quality of this comp is way down - in 2002 or 2003 thsi Newcastle side wouldn't be anywhere near the 8 but this year - if we get our top 17 on the park for the finals and get a bit of a roll on and play that grinding style we seem to play best we could knock off a few big guns like Manly and Melbourne IMO.

We're a perfect example of a Jekyll and Hyde side. Over the years that has been the case, but especially this year it is ringing truer than ever before. When we're bad, we're really bad - look no further than round 3 and round 11. But when we're switched on for the majority of the eighty minutes, we're capable of beating any side in the comp, no doubt about it. Look no further than the Warriors game a few weeks ago and even last weeks performance with the week we had in the leadup. With players such as Simpson, Kidley, Mullen, Buderus, Paterson and now Walsh, although I still don't expect us to win it, we'll give this comp an almighty shake.

Lol no chance at the premiership, no team has after conceding more than 50 in the year, that'll continue.

I could see us winning it, I guess, but I wouldn't be bold enough to put money on us. On our day we're brave and we come up with some great footy - but I'd hate to run into a Melbourne or Manly side in the grand final and have one of our bad days
