I overheard several Bulldog players when going out to warm up recently at Henson before our second game trying to guess the official crowd. Some where close but no second prizes.

The reputation of the 8972 keeps spreading and on the footy show Matt Johns was wearing it in PNG. Great to see.

I understand that Henson posts 8972 as its crowd each week... but what's the significance of the number?

Back during Metro Cup days at Redfern when the ARL clubs were fudging crowd figures we started announcing this figure as a joke and it just stuck. Now it always receives a cheer when announced and is printed on Henson Park T-shirts and stubby holders as well. It has made the papers a few times as the press think we are serious but we just like a bit of fun at the ground.
