The only reason Samoa and Tonga are now stronger is because all the Australian and NZ players have defected. Clearly picking and choosing who to play for. They should be barred from playing Origin and not using it as a cash cow. Shouldn’t matter if they are tier 1 or 2.
Why would they bar them? They intentionally set up this system.

Also, for the most part the Samoan-NZers haven't defected in mass (Taupau who was broken and RTS after his rugby stint are the only two of real note, Isaako went for one game to honour his Dad). The Kiwis were still a fairly mixed team this year (we even had some white players).

Pick and stick should be the policy.

There is a World Cup every 4 years. Make it a standard across the board rule of one switch per international player per world cup cycle if they qualify. Tier one or two it doesn't matter.

Bit narrow view. Many people, especially in Australia, feel dual or even multi national agency. Nothing wrong with them wanting to represent for each of them. I could play for England or Australia and would be proud to represent either having lived in both countries for an equal amount of time. Not that I'm getting that choice unless netflix binging becomes an international sport :)

Do agree though there should be a period of time between swapping. What is a bit on the nose though is that sometimes it feels like they are only representing one country because they werent good enough to be picked for Aus, Eng or NZ and as soon as those countries come calling they drop their allegiance. I applaud players who refuse to play for the big 3 and instead choose a country they feel more aligned to.

The whole thing is overblown. Literally no one outside of the terminally online fans gives a f**k about the players allegiances and whether or not they’ve ever swapped. It just doesn’t matter. I read these forums and generally I’m fairly up to date on this stuff and I still couldn’t care.

It only really looks bad when it stands out in an obvious way (like say if you have a Japanese team and every players a god damn white dude).

It make me laugh when the "they should stick to one side" comments come up in here when there's literally been hardly any side hopping evey year. If anything having Samoa and Tonga being this strong stops the movement because those players wants to commit to samoa and Tonga for good. In the past it was different, because samoan and tongan players only committed to the island nations because they weren't good enough for the Kiwis and Kangaroos. As soon as they were good enough they fugged off back to the top tier nations. Funny thing is no one complained about it. As soon as it was the other way around now it's a problem.
The international game is at its peak and I don't think it's ever been this good! How about enjoying the damn moment and stop finding something negative about it when there's nothing to be negative about!

They have more chance with your buddies the Aussies putting their finger on the scales in your favour.

Without it we'd have Jerome the Maori Luai competing with Dylan Brown for our five eighth position. ;)
I'm obviously a big Toa Samoa fan but I hope none of the samoan heritage players do come over to the samoa side. Last thing we need is the Kiwis to suffer even more... In saying that Dylan Brown... 😉

Samoa v Tonga as a 3 match series could rival origin as a spectacle

And the nrl lucked into it bc Jason taumalolo turned his back on nz as did Andrew Fifita

It's pretty obvious to every fan and also the players themselves have been calling for it. It seems like the only ones that don't get it are the ones that have the power to schedule it! I do hope when they face each other next year the spectacle will live up to the hype. I love the Kiwis but if the Pac Championship final is Samoa vs Tonga they need to book it at Eden Park.

I’ve been moaning for two years we have been deprived of the blue chip game for the pacific cup so the pommies can get Tours

They rely upon the nrl for their tours since they are too lazy to develop France

Apparently Samoa v Tonga will be in Sydney but hopefullly Allianz or Homebush.
