With Idris coming onboard we have a couple of great personatlities(Idris, Seggy) that could be massive for our marketing. Gould should be trying to get those guys(and others) on TV as much as possible.

Idris has played one good half a season in his career. He should concentrate on his form and fitness before anything else

Yeah because the two are mutually exclusive.

Of course he should focus on fitness and form first but it doesnt mean he can't do some TV appearences etc. Should he be training and exercising 24hours a day?? Im not saying give him Beau Ryans weekly gig, just a guest spot or two. It would be stupid of us not to take advantage of his marketibility.

When Gould was coaching he believed the two were mutually exclusive - even loathed players attending sponsor's function. I wonder has he changed tunes? Anyway he believed that this type of stuff was distracting and detrimental.

Where were these interviews broadcast?

He allowed players to appear on footy shows last season so he must of changed his tune sometime in the last 30 odd years or he has realised that its a neccasary evil. In fact every team allows players to go on TV for interviews etc so I reckon it is easily manageable in this day and age.

Do you honestly believe Jamal appearing on the footy show once or twice throughout the season will prevent him from being fit and in form?

And what interviews?

Given his personality I'd say if it was a permanent gig on a show he could get distracted a bit but if it's an appearance here and there it will be fine. If his form is poor I'd be blaming a few other things first.
He's going to be another great help with our membership drive. Fingers crossed we can get Seg and Idris on the field from round 1, put in a good first month and we should crack 10k members.

Well we're already at 6,000 members, and with the addition of Jamal Idris and all this attention we're getting in the media lately I could see us actually hitting the 10,000 mark. At the start of the membership drive, I would have though 8,000 would be pushing it.

I'm glad to call my entire family Panthers members in 2014. I have made my partner a member the past 3 seasons (turning her from a Dragons supporter into a Panthers supporter), and this season I decided my kids would be. My eldest is 13 months, my youngest 15 days. So they obviously don't need to be members to get in, but when the junior membership is only $20 for a supporter pack, it's really great value to support the club and have a little membership card with their names on it. Our membership team has absolutely nailed it this year IMO. Great value packages and a huge variety to choose from that means there's something for everyone. But my favorite part is the monthly payment plan. I don't even notice the $25 a month or whatever I pay for the season passes come out. Compared to the foxtel, internet, rent, phone, car payments etc. it's really a tiny hit to the bank account.

The more articles in the media, the more excited I get. So I can see all of these articles convincing people to sign up for us. A good showing at the 9's would probably be all it takes to hit the 10k mark well and truly before the season kicks off IMO. Considering the ridiculous talent we have, I think we're a good chance at winning it too.

I don't think I mentioned anything about what I thought but to answer your question - No.

The interviews that were at the end of the links that Big Mick so kindly posted - where were they broadcast?

We have wanted a player to put bums on seats. We have that now so how better to use it. The 1st 10 weeks. The game plan, NRL 360. The footy show had every other team players bar us. That's not going to get members & fans attending.

$200k of the deal to JT was for appearing on ch9. Not every week like Burgess did regular hosting. No reason why Idris hasn't got similar in his deal. I have no problem with that. Under Leary everything was on the books this way is better.. Look where that got us..

I'm talking about winning the 9's, not the NRL grand final. I think we're top 8 certainties with a shot at a top 4 spot if our halves click and perform. But not sure we can win the grand final even if they do click.

9's on the other hand... why wouldn't we be in with a good chance? We have so much pace in our team between James Roberts, Eto Nabouli, Kevin Naiqama, Jamie Soward and James Segeyaro that we will be playing a really high tempo game. Throw in players like Josh Mansour, Dean Whare, Jamal Idris, Bryce Cartright, Matt Robinson, Elijah Taylor etc. who are either impossible to tackle one on one, can get away offloads comfortably are draw in defenders and put other guys away. It's hard to imagine us not being one of the top 4 sides in this competition. Our roster is well and truly built for dominating that game IMO. Should be quiet easy for James Segeyaro to get us on the front foot with his dummy half runs, then for Soward to link with one of Idris, Whare, Robinson, Taylor, or Cartright and have them get Roberts, Naiqama or Nabouli the ball with the line wide open and nobody a chance at stopping them.

Clearing your cache allows you to keep viewing. Or atleast is has for me. But i rarely go over the 30 articles per month. Not fussed about reading anything unless its panthers related usually.

Jamie Soward 'a good bloke', says Tim Grant of new mateship at Penrith after Kokoda trip

sowardwide-20140205000047834067-620x349.jpg
Improvising: New Penrith pivot Jamie Soward takes a break from the club's Kokoda trek to line up a shot, to the delight of these PNG village children.

Trekking the Kokoda Track for up to 16 hours a day not only provided Penrith prop Tim Grant with a deeper appreciation for the Diggers who helped halt the Japanese invasions of World War II, but it allowed him and new teammate Jamie Soward to form a bond that promises to give the Panthers an extra edge.

Grant, Soward and their coach, Ivan Cleary, accompanied seven teenagers from the western suburbs on a trip intended to honour the feats of those soldiers who, in 1942, made a stand in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth.

The trio feature in the soon-to-be-released documentary Kokoda: In the Footsteps of the Brave, which is narrated by Penrith executive general manager Phil Gould and details the numerous challenges the group - drawn from Panthers on the Prowl, the community arm of the NRL club - faced as they completed what was normally a 10-day expedition in six.
Grant said the challenges helped him to forge a friendship with Soward, the former St George Illawarra pivot, because he displayed all the qualities of a ''good bloke'' even in the most trying of Papua New Guinea's conditions.

''He's a good bloke, nothing was too hard for him at all,'' said Grant of his new mate's approach. ''He's a real competitor and brings to us direction and leadership; things we need. He's the man for the job - along with Peter Wallace who has really stepped up at training. We had a number of good chats on Kokoda and found we have a lot in common.''
Grant learnt Soward boasted a huge supporter base in a remote village when he was urged by the locals to take a few kicks at goal in his muddied hiking boots.
''Jamie had a couple of shots,'' Grant said. ''They all wanted to know how he lined up the ball so he put on a show for the village and they loved it.''
Grant will open his season on Saturday when he packs down against Wests Tigers in a trial match at Camden.
