We are a defensive team and Casey is already our best defensive centre....While Schneider is eager to step into the five-eighth role, Talagi appears to have his nose in front at this stage.
The off-season recruit has impressed over the summer and is viewed by many as a future star. At just 19 years of age, he won't even be old enough to drink when he lands in the USA
Should the teenager line up at five-eighth, he will form one of the youngest left edges in the competition.
18-year-old Casey McLean looks set to have first crack at the centre position, with 21-year-old Paul Alamoti on the wing. Back-rower Isaiah Papali'i will bring some much-needed experience to the unit and act as Talagi's bodyguard.
Schneider has been impressed with Talagi's performances during his first pre-season at the Panthers and said the competition for the No.6 jumper has brought the best out of all of the club's halves.

My preference for our forward rotation is for Papali'i/Martin to start on the edges with Garner being the 17 that spells them/covers outside backs injuries. Sorenson and Henry would be your bench props. Now if an edge forward goes down, Sorenson sliding to an edge role and bringing Patea onto the bench seems like a much better option than Geyer coming into the side. We all know Eiso would probably be first drop anyway so maybe its a moot point. Either way adding Papali'i massively helps the balance of our squad given we were running with Garner, 2 guys who were injured all year and then some willing but unsuited props as our edge forwards in 2024.
I'm a little bit mystified that Laurie doesn't appear to be considered for the #6 role.
Obviously, I am just a casual observer and unlike the coaching staff, do not see him train everyday but I thought he should have been a more than decent chance to compete for, or even grab the #6 Jersey for himself.
Perhaps defending in the line is a big issue with him? If that is so, I don't see Talagi being any better in that respect.
100% his D.
Full of praise for him as a fullback. But if I had a criticism I'd say his frame won't offer a lot defending on the line. More than makes up for it with his work at fullback though.
Tailagi doesn't have a frame issue. Bigger body.
That's a shame really. Ball in hand, he is dynamite.
