Disappointed? Why? It's a trial. I'm happy to hear we put on thirty points against a near full strength Panthers outfit without our two most influential players.

disappointed in leaking 38 points in one half of footy.... but that credit goes 2 the Panthers, must have stormed it in, takes a good team 2 come back from behind like that, congrats again..

it also takes a poor team to be behind 24-0 at halftime. Nevertheless the win does say alot about their attitude and it's definetely a positive to take away from the trial.

Can't read too much into trial form anyway, if you could we'd have had another premiership last year...or gone alot closer to getting one than we did.

Penrith comes back to steamroll Knights
Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 12:04 AM

Penrith put a month of turmoil behind them with a stunning 38-30 comeback win over Newcastle in a trial match at Alice Springs.

And ironically it was newly appointed skipper Tony Puletua who led the comeback with embattled and dumped former captain Craig Gower resting on the sidelines.

The Panthers trailed Newcastle by 24 points at halftime but steamrolled the Knights in the second half thanks to two tries to Puletua.

Gower, still in a bitter dispute with the club over being stripped of his captaincy for an alcohol-fuelled indiscretion at the Sunshine Coast, sat out the second half comeback having earlier been the Panthers most industrious attacking player.

But in his absence it was the rampaging efforts of Puletua that won the match for the Panthers, going over for Penrith's first try within the first three minutes of the restart.

Newcastle had dominated the match early through emerging star Jarrod Mullen and stand in captain Kurt Gidley.

The pair were unstoppable in the first half playing a part in all four first half tries.

Their insatiable early form was squashed by Puletua's busting second half effort.

Luke Lewis and Mick Gordon supported their new captain well, partnering up to get the Panthers' second try in five minutes.

Not to be outdone the Puletua thundered over again two minutes later.

Shane Rodney capped off the turn around in the 70th minute giving the Panthers the lead for the first time, 26-24.

The Panthers late dominance was emphasised by Brett Howland's 80m try before new British recruit Brian Carney wrapped up the match with his fist try for the Knights in the final minute.

I feel sh*t the fact we got 24-0 down at halftime against a team which didn't have Johns or Buderus or Simpson.

I feel great the fact we had the character and balls to comeback and get to 38-24 in front before conceding a last minute try.

Obviously there is no mention of Danny Galea going well in the centres again. Shock horror. Mick Gordon going well which is great to see. Maybe a bolter for the centre position?

Great to see T really relishing the captaincy too. Taking the game by the scruff of the neck...sign of a great captain.

Apparantly stand out performers were:
- Nick Youngquest
- Paul Aiton
- Peter Wallace
- Mick Gordon

Our PL side went down as well as our Flegg team....which is a bit concerning on both accounts really. Interested to see how Junior went in PL along with Daniella and John Flint.

A long season ahead for your blokes. 24-0 down against a team with it's three best players out.

Back to the drawing board!!!

Interesting seeing the telegraph this morning is saying it was gower who had big hand in the comeback.

Premier League and Jersey Flegg did lose but weren't flogged.

And I would have thought gordon was more likely to force lewis into the centre's then take a centre position himself. If that were the case I'd expect our 3/4 line to look like

Gordon
Lewis
O'Hallaron
Rooney

what do u know moron. We also then put 38-0 in 38 minutes before Carney scored with a minute to go for them. Of course we were rusty in the first half...we had a sh*tload of new players...but then things clicked and we dominated.

Get your facts right before you decide to shoot your mouth.

Gordon's defence has always been fairly ordinary I've thought, but a good attacking player. If he can improve defence he would have to be a goer for sure.

24-0 obviously is not a good start, but scoring pretty much 38 unanswered points in the second half is encouraging.

Don't know whether I should be disappointed with the bad start, thrilled with the great finish, or a bit of both.

Can't wait for the Eels match up in Port next week. :)
