A superstar sportsman, a favourite son, looks like turning his back on his code, leaving the team that made him famous and deserting the fans who claim his every breathing minute as their own.

His every appearance for his league team has the fans on their feet, clever kicks, individual brilliance and natural athletic prowess on show for all to see. Born to play the game, and with other family members and mates from his junior days surrounding him at the club, he seems destined to play in those hallowed colours forever.

Better still, he's a home grown talent. Local football royalty. His face is on the sides of buses. All the locals know where he lives. He is celebrated by the kids, and sought after by the local businesses.

While sitting out most of the season with a major injury, he considers the impending defection. Without the daily contact with his teammates, the regularity of training and the security offered by being surrounded with such familiar constants, the said player finds his mind wandering.

Other things play on his mind. Family, relationships, the future.

But, finally, the announcement is made. Huge dollars. Massive hype, and even greater expectations. The opposition code scores a massive coup, talking up their boardroom victory as if they had just wiped the opposition over 80 minutes on the green stuff.

"This guy will play a key role in our World Cup campaign", they holler loudly from the rooftops.

"Born to play the game", they declare.

"He's got dual international written all over him".

Now, you pick which bloke I'm talking about.

Rogers or Johns.

:?: :? :?: :? :?:

See Reefy, you have illustrated my point perfectly.

Two identical lines, telling the stories of two different men, at two different times, each with similarities that are too close to be co-incidental, or are these links purely flukes?

Thanks Reefy!

And at the end of the day, Rugby Union will still be the poor sister of rugby league....

The bigger the credentials of the players they take the bigger the slap in the face when league continues to be the best game in the world.....

Go your hardest Ruggers!!! We got the product and you can take as many of our stars as you want..it won't make your game better in the slightest!

I wonder how many games Johns will play?? Hey!!! another parallel!!!!!!

Its true. Even if they came and took Fittler, Lockyer and Johns all at once - League would still survive.

New superstars come through the ranks every year.

Jealously is an awful thing to have I guess.

Trains, buses, billboards...You know what I meant, ya clowns!

Seriously, look at the two 'defections'. There are MANY similarities, including the incorrect assumption held by many of the 'faithful' that both Rogers and Johns would never leave the clubs that they were synonymous with, simply because they were Mat or Joey and we are Cronulla or Newcastle.

AND, then there's the layoff due to injury, which gave them time to think.

What is the equation for these lines? And what will the equation be if Joey doesn't defect?

Get me the answers, Booyah!
