U19 Junior Kiwis Fixture Confirmed
Tuesday, 10 September 2019, 11:16 am
Press Release: New Zealand Rugby League

Thanks to the support of Sky Sport, the Under 19 Junior Kiwis will take on the Australian School Boys Sunday, September 29th in Queensland.

The Junior Kiwis Under 19s will take on their Trans-Tasman rivals at Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 1 pm NZT; the game will be televised live on SKY Sport.

Greg Peters, CEO of New Zealand Rugby League said: “We are extremely grateful for Sky’s ongoing support as this fixture would not have been possible otherwise.

“The Junior Kangaroos recently moved to an U23s structure as they are set to take on France U23s later in the year. We are looking at re-introducing an U23s team next year, however in the meantime, giving our U19 Junior Kiwis a run against high-quality competition like the Australian School Boys is great for the development of our young players.

“We have some undeniable Kiwi talent coming through and it’s exciting we get to see them take the field in what will be nothing short of a high class, entertaining game of rugby league.”

Sky Director of Sport, Tex Teixeira says: “We’re proud to be playing our part in supporting the Junior Kiwis Under 19s and we can’t wait to watch them take on the Aussies – go well team!”

New Zealand Rugby League is pleased to announce the following players have been selected for the Junior Kiwis U19 wider squad:

Didn’t starford toa play for the junior kangaroos against England juniors earlier this year?

Also hopefully the warriors Fijian winger will pick Fiji ahead of NZ if he makes 1st grade.

Jessie Cronin has been selected for the Matla Knights.

The Malta Knights take on Italy on October 12 in Sydney, while they will face a Turkey squad on October 26, which includes Canberra Raiders Aiden Sezer.

I love that Eels jersey without the big ad for the construction company across the front. I might try to get one of those. It looks like the 2017 jersey.
Only thing is instead of PARRA it should have said EELS.

Watched the Harrold Matt's trials today.
Had a relatives son try out. How does it all work as far as selection goes? There was 3 games so 6 teams. Must be hard for selectors to gauge who the best ones are. Over 100 kids.

They don’t just pick from the trials, they wouId be watching them during the year in their comps.

You probably find, the selectors already a have fair idea who is in the squad and are looking for any real standouts they may have missed.

Generally the trials held today would be to,see if there were any surprise players. They ask teams in Div 1 to nominate 8 players and lesser numbers in other grades, that's to encourage juniors to try for reps and how players stand up to pressure.

Not sure, but normally there would be another game or so where outside players are invited, and the better performers from today's trial are looked at.

Penrith have already trimmed their squad to 35 or so for summer training

It said PARRA because Parra Leagues was their sponsor.

Hindy, FYI Norths are running an open trial for Matts this Sunday at TG Milner from 8am, you can register on the morning. Should be able to find details on North Sydney JRL site.

Cheers. I was told they had gotten his number and rang him a few weeks back and asked him to trial for them already.

A few players from the 2010 Harold Matts grand final played in today's NRL game. Looking at those team lists it's interesting how few genuine NRL players come out of even the best under 16s teams in a given year:

https://18thman.com/harold-matthews-cup/2010-2/

The only legit first graders out of those 34 players are Lodge, Cartwright, Moses and Moeroa. Kaysa Pritchard might've been a first grader as well. Fualalo, Pauli and Tanginoa played a few NRL games too.

I was looking at a few old team lists of the 16’s for the dragons / Steelers and it was interesting to see how few even come decent country regular first grade players (at 20 or so).

Making the SG ball side is a much better indicator - most that make these sides, when they go back to their club play first grade at 17/18.

Congratulations to Parramatta Eels Junior Representative players Tyler Field and Samuel Loizou who have been selected in the 2019 Australian Schoolboys side to face New Zealand in September.

Following the Australian Schoolboys National Championships held in Canberra last week, the two young Eels were selected in the Australia Schoolboys side and presented their jerseys by Kangaroos’ Head Coach Mal Meninga.

https://www.parraeels.com.au/news/2019/07/23/young-eels-named-in-australian-schoolboys-sides/

Hoffmann, Tuli and Fualema must have been scouted at the AUS Champs.

Think Hoffmann is Jersey Flegg next year, while Tuli and Fualema will be U16's.
