Six SG Ball eligible players, five of which are starters. Plenty of talent in this team but I think there will be at least a few frustrating losses along the way given the sheer disadvantage they are put at on a weekly basis in physical development and sheer weight of experience.

I notice we are at round 4 of the Tarsha Gale Cup. How have our girls been going ?

Week 1 was called off due to the heat and Week 2 was a bye. They got off to a winning start last week though. Really entertaining game as well. The Nines format was a rare inspired choice by the NRL. The girls showed plenty of skill and relished the extra space to run the footy.

Good to see NYC profiles up. Pity that not all have junior clubs listed.

Ditto for the lack of height and weight measurements. Makes talent evaluation from a fan perspective that much harder. Still good to finally see that profiles up.

I believe so mate but I can't say that with 100% confidence. Let me get back to you on that one in a couple of days.

Assuming they are allowed to do so they would also need to be considered part of the Ball squad by Round 6 or 7 which is when the Matts and Ball rosters are locked in for the remainder of the season.

Thanks.....I'm not a great fan of pushing players through to higher age groups in large or even moderate numbers unless there is some OBVIOUS advantage to be gained.
Sometimes we seem to get caught up in a supposed future at the expense of the present.
Perhaps our current Matthews champs from 2016 had too much asked of them last week against Illawarra and I would wonder if our Junior teams selectors are doing both the players and the club the favours they think they are ?
I appreciate the comments I have read in the past about the value of the junior competitions as far as kudos goes but tell that to the players in any grade who are trying their best each week for their clubs !

For those interested tomorrow's Matthews and Ball will be played at St Marys, kick off starts at 2.15pm

Cheers Delboy, I saw they changed the venue was unsure if they changed the time.

Do you know anything about Bailey Biondi-Odo? I think he may be from QLD as his older brother (assuming it's his older brother) is playing for NTH QLD in the ISC.

We signed him to a 3 year deal and has been brought down from Innisfail as the side lacks a playmaker, plenty of hole runners but not as much direction as needed. That was very obvious in the first 2 games, and a little better game plan. Particularly how they take players on and off, left some big holes last week

Think he played in the Indiginous rep side before the All stars game, assuming the club trial games are called off with this rain , should be able to update

Unfortunately I believe that might be the case. Stood up tall when the rest of his team was getting hammered last week but he banged his shoulder up on a massive carry late in the game. Everyone (fans/club etc) just needs to be patient with Stefano. Extremely talented player but he is a bit like a young SBW in the sense that parts of his body are functioning in an adult capacity (for instance, his muscles) but the auxiliary supporting stuff (tendons, ligaments etc) just can't handle the load.

If we can nurture him through this tricky period of injury recovery and physical development we will have one heck of a player on the other side.

Thank you Forty20. The kid is an absolute specimen of a human being with footballing talent to match. If he can continue to stay injury free I believe this kid is destined for the NRL.

Matthew and Ball fixtures today were expected to be danger games for the Blue and Gold

Matts won comfortably in the en 26-6, led around the Field by new half Biondi-Odo from Innisfail who scored an individual try and kicked 3 goals and was an excellent kicker in general play. Bookends in Hollis and Wihongi dominated the first half, but a dislocated shoulder to Henry Hall and a broken hand to Christian Wihongi took the sting out of the second half performance. Will be very interesting over the next few weeks with Sam Hughes still out, Josef Masters not expected to recover to play this season and now Hall and Wihongi also out.

Ball never looked in trouble winning 48-4, slick passing and edge running dominated Canberra wth a number of tries scored in quick succession to blow the game apart. This was a team display with some great line speed and good hands.

Next weeks games v Balmain look to be yet another rest of these 2 teams , who probably haven't hit their straps yet as the coaches seem happy to give every player in the squad game time in these first rounds.
