Parramatta Eels Juniors

Manly have had the bus from our district to Brookvale for the juniors for at least 10 years. 2 years ago, they transported a whole team from our juniors weekly, they got fed up winning 50-0 each week, and came back after 6 weeks

Balmain do similar, Roosters offer places to numerous Parra juniors, seems to have got a life as they spread their wings into the Bulldogs area. A good friend of mine is a player manager, takes calls all the time from Manly asking him to target juniors and funnel them to the Sea Eagles.

Usual luke warm response from the NRL, when do they ever take a stand

What is stopping us doing exactly the same thing with our jnrs as Manly/Rooters are? Do they just spend more, or are they better at targeting the right kids......or do we just think that we own them because they happen to be born out west?

We already spend plenty on junior reps. All these Kiwis and country kids aren't playing in our SG Ball side because our home ground's over their back fence. Obviously there's a budget, and you can't keep all of them.

That's right. So we make a choice about where we want to spend our money. So do other clubs. I don't get exactly what the problem is. Maybe I'm missing something.

I guess if they live closest to our football office they should only be allowed to play for us, and if we can't offer them a spot in the team or give them the cash or scholarship they're after then they should be frozen out of playing for anyone else. Haven't you seen Oliver!?

The problem is the age 13 years old. If nothing is done when we go to sign them at 15 they wont be available. Then there will be a gap in our succession plans. Let em play footy instead of being pressured to choose an NRL club.
Manly signed Steven Hales as NSW cup coach for a reason and that is his knowledge of the Parra system and association with Westfield sports High School

Manly also signed Gareth Holmes dor that reason, knowledge of our juniors. They had David Penna there for years too, if you have good systems you can expect this to happen.

Should be some protection until these kids don't make our junior reps, but dont expect the weak NRL to do anything unless it impacts the Dogs or Roosters

If it makes the kids happy what's the problem? We have a great system and kids want to play there. Training is also a lot closer to most of them than Brookvale or Moore Park. We'll still get most of the best ones and it's easy to poach them back before the age of 18. And by then you're limited by the salary cap anyway.

Pretty cool article on Jesse Cronin in the Maitland Mercury. Look up Mercury website.

Says when he was concussed last season he was actually in a coma for 6 hours.

I can't speak highly enough about Jesse Cronin and Kyle Schneider as young men. On top of being excellent rugby league talents they are both just really pleasant kids to have a yack to.

The article T-Boon mentions puts into perspective how rough the road has been for Jesse. He has earned his Australian School jersey and then some.

Shame this game isn't televised. Dylan Brown just channeled Benji Marshall in the 2005 GF with a ridiculous run and flick pass to put Reed Mahoney over as the half time siren rung out. And this kid turned 17 two months ago.
