I usually talk NFL. They are who we should be 5 years behind, instead AFL is 5 years behind them and we are 5 years behind AFL.

The NFL is worth Billions of dollars per year to tv networks (as opposed to one billion over a number of years like the Aussie football codes). They have 32 teams, all worth billions of dollars each, which all make hundreds of millions of dollars in profit every year. They have an annual event (Super Bowl) which is watched by a billion people around the world every year. They have a streaming service for fans to watch HD games either in the USA or overseas.

And the AFL is only 5 years behind them?

Yeah women aren't all that important to the overall health of Rugby League. So I see your point. Why spend good money after bad to at best be seen to give a crap about women, when you don't need them. In fact I reckon the NRL should charge them for all their volunteer work and double for all merchandise and entry into games. Damn freeloading ne'erdowells that wouldn't have a clue about the game and only suck the life out of watching any game with their incessant gibbering!

Why should the clubs give back to those leaches and sow the seeds for future generations of girls to have heroes to aspire to. Hey after all, they are only 51% of the population. Oh, and there's the kiddies that they help raise too, they don't have any influence over them now do they?

Damn pests! Where do they get off asking for their own competition be funded by the same clubs that rake in millions of dollars that these women spend in their establishments. Who said women are part of the sporting community of our Rugby Leagues Clubs? Junior sports, yeah sure to some extent, but high end premier league status stuff? Na-ah, forget that, let that be the sucker bet that other less successful sports take a gamble on, like that failure of a sport AFL.

The NRL is a powerhouse. Women who needs them!

TLDR: TheRam hates chicks... I think.

Yep that’s exactly what I said captain Black and White.

Surprised you didn’t accuse me of using the term ‘bitches’ while you were at it...

Sure thats what I am saying. By my projections AFL will overtake NFL in 5 years...

Since there are only 5 clubs that have bothered to put in a bid the NRL should accept the North Sydney Bears bid to get it up to 6 clubs.

It would at least be sort of cool to have foundation clubs the Dragons, Bears, Roosters, Rabbitohs represented.

Though it turns out per wiki the Dragons were not a foundation team having entered in 1921 or something.

More importantly, do they have a women's league where they are fully clothed?

All I ever see from most of you guys is excuses and you know what I think of excuses.

I don't give a crap that the NRL has no money. You know why? Because they did it to themselves. They have made an art form of perpetual failure followed by excuses. Failures and extinct organizations do that.

The NFL and AFL have assets, media allies billions and millions of dollars in the bank. But guess what they don't have?

EXCUSES!

I'm not really sure this push for women playing men's sport is a sustainable strategy. I believe it all comes from the politically correct equal opportunity brigade being pushed by the media and the AFL jumped on board because they want to be leaders in equality. I think it will die a natural death.

AFLW really is terrible, haven't really watched a lot but I never will either. I got mates who are into the AFL and even they cant watch it.

I have no issues with women playing men's sport but no matter how much funding people like the NRL, AFL or WLeague or what ever throw at women playing men's sports, its just not as entertaining as watching men play so without the crowds and sponsorship it will never sustain itself and so it will need to be funded by the men's sport.

You have to wonder why there is a push for women to play men's sport which I believe is all about equality but there is no push for say men to play netball. I wonder why.

There are certain sports that men play and certain sports that women play so why the need for change ?

Exactly. I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned virtue signalling yet...

Nope.
They could certainly afford to fund one if they wanted to though.

As far as I know, the only major sport in the US that has a women's league is basketball. I'm not sure how popular it is, but it has been around for a very long time now.

There is a professional women’s ice hockey league as well.

Because it seems that there are women who actually want to play these sports. Why don't they push for men's netball? Well, are there any men who want to play netball?
I'm not sure it's a good idea to throw money at something that probably won't work is a great idea, especially if it is for social and political reasons, but it may be worth a try, in which case I'm glad the AFL is doing it first. Let them be the gauge and see if it works.
I don't cop to this theory of "men's sports" and "women's sports" though. Women play football too, as we have seen with the AFLW and the women's Rugby League games recently.

As far as women’s sport goes women’s basketball in the states is probably more popular than most other women’s sports anywhere but still is only a tiny blip on the sporting landscape radar. They play it in their summer to avoid competing with the nba. But from little bits I’ve seen there are plenty of empty seats in stadiums.

I like to take homer’s view on these things:

“ if the Bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls' sports, such as hot-oil wrestling, foxy boxing, and such-and-such..”

Well that's largely true about the NFL. The teams don't all make hundreds of millions in profits each year though. Only 3 make more than $100m (and that's on a massive investment) , and some (Steelers, Lions, Raiders) post losses.
