Grothe should of at least had the courtesy to inform the powers that be. If he dosnt want to play and wants to do other endevours, well thats fine. Each to their own...but have some manners about it.

I think a lot of it has to do with the cry-baby antics of Eels fans, such as "Why wasn't Weyman sent off?1?!?1?1111?!!!!!!1111!!!11" after the game earlier this year. Then again, it could be that it's just me you're referring to, as I cannot stand the players at the club, including the most overrated man to ever lace on a boot, Nathan "the grubbiest man in league" Hindmarsh.

Other players in your team are similarly overrated just because they play for Parramatta, Grothe being chief amongst them.

Oh and that '94 Raiders team would have the Eels for breakfast.

Jealousy. Canberra have dined on the scraps of Parra's salary cap for years. Must have hurt when they all pissed of when contract renewal time came around - especially Ian Hindy coming back to Parra.

The 94 Raiders side was a great one. Good enough to get within 16 points of Parra in '83.

Agreed that he should have at least informed the Coaches that he did not wish to attend. How long ago was he selected for the train on squad? Because it didn't seem like a decision he had to ponder about - maybe he should have told them straight away.

Being a laid character is good and all but show a little respect, it's a rep jersey and a compliment to Eric that he is up there with the best.

To suggest that he did not show up because he wasn't going to make it in anyway is a poor excuse. He's got skill but I think perhaps it's his attitude that is costing him his chances - not his talent.

But if he had informed the coaches then there should be no issue. Grothe doesn't want to play, well then he doesnt have to. Don't choose him for a rep spot or a train on squad - give another guy who wants to be there a chance.
agreed here... I feel as a Parra supporter that it's poor form and almost unprofessional. I'm disappointed that he'd get himself a name for this... I enjoy watching him play footy and I would have liked to have seen him give himself the best possible chance of wearing the green & gold.
At the end of the day though it's no-one's problem but his own!! Although one could argue that, due to his attitude, he won't even see it as a problem:lol:

Nah, not just you, I've seen it from other Raiders fans.

Didn't have the best of years, and I tend to think that his rep days are nearly over, but still a great, great player. A legend.

Grothe has his weaknesses, no doubt. He gets picked because he's big and strong and fast. I'd pick other players over him. Don't think any other players on Parra's team are over-rated. Some are under-rated, in fact, and cop a hard time from critics and fans alike.

Take away the professionalism, and that Raiders team wouldn't come within 20. Eels 81-2-3 are still the only team to win 3 in a row since the introduction of limited tackle football. The ONLY team.

Mate, I don't mind if you think I'm a hypocrite. At the end of the day it's just my opinion. I think he has a poor attitude and don't see how I've exhibited anything that would suggest I have a poor attitude in the same vein...

If Eric Grothe wanted to call me a cat for not showing up to audition to be lead singer in a local band than he's quite within his rights to!

Grothe is a coward..always has been, always will be. Well I guess I shouldn't say that. Ok...Grothe has been a coward from 2000 - Present.

I agree with the premiership winning halfback from the greatest club side in history.

Angry Australian coach Ricky Stuart said Grothe preferred to drink with Eels teammates rather than train for a possible Test spot against New Zealand next month in Wellington. Stuart said Grothe would now not be considered for selection. Eels teammates Nathan Hindmarsh and Jarryd Hayne turned up to train.

Given Ray Prices info, I'd say that there is proof that Stuart has an agenda with Grothe. Piss poor form for someone who turned his back on the same jumper!

Would I like to see Grothe in the green and gold? Bloody oath! Am I dissapointed that he has decided against it? Yes I am. In the end, his withdrawal isn't much worse than high profile players delaying off season surgery until their NRL campaign is over, but not waiting until after the test. That is where international footy falls down.

IF he informed them that he wasn't interested, fair enough, & no one can tell him what he should do.

But if he didn't... that's a pretty grubby thing to do.

Either way... it's always been my opinion that Grothe has never really had much passion for footy.

I don't know, nor do I care what the premiership winning halfback from arguably the 2nd or 3rd best club side of all time said.

Players like SBW & Benji are dying to play tests, but they keep getting robbed by injury. Then you have a passionless idiot like Grothe who just doesn't bother to turn up. Huge slap in the face to players who'd give anything to play for their country.

That is the worse piece of naivety ever said. You do't assume you won't make it. Everybody has an equal chance.

That is the worst piece of naievty I've heard.
Everybody has an equal chance assumes all things are equal, which they obviously are not.

I'm not defending Grothe if he didn't inform them, but really he either retires from rep footy properly or he plays imo, but I can't stand stupid comments like some of the ones on here.

Grothe didn't get picked for SOO - when there was an obvious chance for him to be picked they went for an ageing and slow Elmasri, just because he can kick goals.

He was also overlooked for City-Country.

So, if he has been overlooked for the other rep-fixtures this year, when there is obviously a better chance (mathematically) that he'd make one of those teams, why would he have an equal chance of making an Aussie side that will have Inglis, Falou, Hayne, Hodges, Gasnier etc etc all vying for those 3/4 positions.

i actually didnt think he was too far away from being picked. the selectors might have wanted to wait abit for Folau. Tate is injured. Matt King is off to England. that would mean a 3 way battle between the eels boys and Inglis. an injury for Inglis in the GF and he would have been a huge chance...

moot point now ofcourse... he doesnt want to play rep footy so pass that opportunity on to someone that does.

Wing positions Grail. Gasnier & Hodges will never be picked as wingers and Grothe will never be a centre.

:iwstupid:

Sigh....
With so many high quality centres in the game, and with the selectors habitual use of centres on the wing, they are effectively fighting it out for positions in the 3/4 line. Don't be stupid in thinking that they aren't. So, with room having to be made for players such as Inglis, Falou who do you think Grothe would be competing against?
