Eels turn on Max
Struggling Parramatta are in the process of developing a strategic plan to get the club out of the hole it is in and give them direction during the next four years, but right now there are concerns they are rudderless.

In the background Eels members are signing a petition in an attempt to have chairman Max Donnelly removed.

A meeting was held on Thursday night where petitions were circulated among the 60 members who attended. Past players are going to back the proposal. Donnelly is the administrator appointed by the NSW government when the previous board was removed.

"We are also requesting the immediate removal of the board," Andrew Eagleston, a former sponsor and member, wrote in an email to this column.

"We are seeking the appointment of a fresh board, which will consist of Parramatta Eels members with the required business and professional experience and a couple of former Parramatta Eels players for the Football Club board. Once the administrator has been removed and the new board has been appointed, we will then work through the management structure."

That indicates the members’ group has an issue with chief executive Bernie Gurr as well.

"The board consists of non-Parramatta people who are in our opinion conflicted when making decisions in relation to player signings, junior development, managing the football operation," Eagleston wrote. "There is a distinct lack of care for the Eels brand as it stands.

"The existing board of directors do not have a strategic plan in place and the board are implementing a strategic plan by June 30, 2018, as advised by staff of the club. It is unbelievable for an organisation of the size and profile of the Parramatta Eels to not have a strategic plan. It is clear the club lacks direction and leadership as the club remains in a holding pattern without clear direction and vision."

Gurr said the Eels were in the process of coming up with a strategic plan and hoped to have it in place in three to four months.

"It’s not something you can rush as it’s a meaningful way to operate our business," he said.

Astounding that someone who has so little profile is given space in the media. If anyone has had the misfortune of attending a meeting and had to endure Eaglestone, Pigram , Fenwick and even Fitzy the you would never vote for what they propose.

They are the reason we ended up where e are due to factionalism and no focus on other things than themselves.

The moves they spruke are straight from the puppetry of the usual a suspects who continue to voice court action and self promotion. What's the phrase from the coach of the Philadelphia 76ers who has rebuilt that club. " trust the process "

I was there. There was no petition handed out. And I was casting my eyes around the room to look for any sneaky (merkin) stuff. Most did a runner at the end to get home to watch the soccer. I did see Eagleston, Pigram & Cordwell all having a powwow on the way out

Totally agree. I don’t care if Max stays another 50 years it’s better than having the plumber, fitzy and his cronies back in charge
