Can you elaborate?

I was referring to the various instances of apartment complexes and other modern infrastructure failing. This has made quite a few people nervous about new builds, especially if there are question marks over the ground.

I know a few people who are avoiding modern apartments for this reason, going for something more established.

Obviously much of the industry is very professional but it only takes a few examples to scare folks off.

The gist of the issue is in the article below.

I agree.
You also make a great point that there are only a few small examples of absolutely dodgy developers.
Those small examples give the whole industry a bad name, and they are what the media focuses on which makes it sound worse than it is.

You'll find the issues lately are a result of having private certifiers; that's when all the problems started.
That was one of the worst shifts made ever, and the system can be dodgy as.

People used to whinge about Council certification and how long it might take etc etc, but at least it had standards and quality was basically guaranteed/enforceable.

So, at the push of a button on a computer keyboard, Sydney Metro have decided to now run services at 3.5 minute intervals instead of 4 minutes during the weekdays and also have 7-minute intervals on weekends instead of 10.
The demand has been so great that this is already needed.
That's what this system was designed to do. Increase services when demand was required. However, it has been so popular that within just two years of the city section of the metro being opened, capacity is reaching crush limits.

Who'd have thought that providing a proper decent transport system would be popular?
Certainly not the RTBU.

The really terrible part is that the Metro was opposed by the unions and Labor Party and the new lines delayed as they hire more public servants.

Rouse Hill Hospital still hasn’t started as land I believe not purchased and no final commitment to start date of the build.

That is exactly what is happening.
City - Metro West has been delayed by two years, costing billions more.
Bankstown extension of the current line the same, also costing so much more.
Yay! Labor!
Parra Light Rail extension cut in half and stage two delayed. They are just building half of it.
Fiscally responsible so Bart says. Lol.

Bumper construction program rolls out across Southwest Metro

An intensive five-week construction program is underway to complete upwards of 335 critical tasks inside the Southwest rail corridor, marking a major step towards passenger services on the Southwest Metro.

From last Saturday through to Friday 1 May 2026, on-track testing will temporarily pause on the Bankstown extension to provide a safe work window for hundreds of workers to complete a significant program of work.

During this time, teams will install 1,140 fixed gap fillers across 10 upgraded station platforms. The gap fillers add to 170 previously installed mechanical gap fillers, which are a key safety feature of the new line and will allow gap free access for passengers between trains and the curved platforms.

Crews also plan to utilise this window to close out remaining overhead wiring maintenance, minor bridge works, guardrail upgrades, ballast replacement and earthworks.
Station works, including tiling, landscaping, painting and concourse works, will be another focus area.

The intensive program of work is critical to be able to progress to the next stage of the Southwest project – trial running. When finished, it will bring conversion works across the southwest line to more than 85 per cent complete.

Once open, Southwest and inner west communities will have frequent and reliable metro trains every four minutes in the peak – 15 trains per hour compared to the previous 8 per hour - and fast travel times:

While construction activity over the coming weeks is primarily in the rail corridor, surrounding neighbours may experience some temporary impacts. Measures are in place to minimise disruption and residents can contact a 24-hour community information line on 1800 171 386 for support with any construction-related issues.

When train testing resumes, a series of weekend closures will follow, including full line closures on 9–10 May and 16–17 May. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead and check travel apps for up-to-date service information.
