It dawned on me that the reason why those Sydney Metro stations that I have been to are so architecturally breathtaking, is the absence of advertising.
Will it stay like that ?

Good question.
I hope so, but I think not. Surely commercial interests will eventually come into play.
The stations certainly do look far more clinical without all the advertising.
There is already some advertising screens in place that I have seen at Martin Place, but they are just video screens as you descend the escalators from the Hunter St entrance.
I have however seen some advertising creeping into the NW Metro stations on the PSD'S along that part of the line. Mainly promoting local high-rise developments. I don't really have a problem with that due to Sydney's housing shortage and the need to densify population around decent transport links.
I do however agree that it certainly detracts from the visual amenity of the platforms and stations in general.
