Parramatta Two-Blues - Gone?

It was reported on Friday that the rescue package for the cash strapped club that was talked about in recent weeks had vanished, and other Shute Shield clubs were barring former Parramatta players and juniors returning to the club to help it out.

Today Easts beat the Two-Blues 125-5.

This is eerily reminiscent of Drummoyne's demise from the top flight in the 90s. I was at Coogee Oval when Randwick beat Drummoyne 107-0, was a very sad day for club rugby because Drummoyne knew they needed to rally to stay alive.

Would be a horrible shame for another traditional club to drift out of the game. Were Sydney's only moderately successful club to come from the West of the city, and I dare say if they were to go Penrith couldn't be too far behind.

And if they let Parra and Penrith go, they really seal the fate of the sport at a grassroots level in Sydney

Should be worrying in general for Union. Failing in western Sydney as they seem to be doing will just further isolate them in the little patch of the eastern suburbs and north shore, and the private school catchment.

If any code should be concerned about another AFL side in Sydney it sohuld probably be Rugby rather than League.

Look at Super 14 and test’s, the game has been sanitised and over ruled. The TV games get kids playing and exposes the game to a bigger audience.

I loved playing Union and following Eastwood for years, I haven’t been to a game nor even watched it on TV as it’s so frustrating watching stupid penalties and rules that stop the games flow.

very sad days for Parra's district union...

They lost 81-0 to Souths on the weekend.

Their current differential is 24 for and 447 against.

Got to be gone for all money.

eagles - it's a shame you have not watched it this year.

granted the last few years have not been good at all, but this year had seen a return to more attacking rugby.

there are some great young players in oz rugby coming through the ranks so bodes well for the future...but not as well for any NRL players looking to jump ship.

it's a shame about parramatta. they used to be perennial finalists back int he mid 80s. hopefully something gets sorted ASAP.

rugby is not dying out west at best it was only ever a faint pulse.Rugby does not and has never given a stuff about club rugby.Super 14 and above is all they care about
The penrith club when founded asked for some stars to be sent to play for them. They started getting kids in the district playing. But now hardly any kids are looking at wanting to go there and like parramatta have been left to die on the vine by rugby powers

Haven't won a grade game, not even fielding in fourth grade, two grades of colts for one win each, no third grade colts. Seems like the Two Blues are turning Dirty Red, hopefully they pull it back from the brink but it may be second tier club rugby soon.

Would West Harbour be happy?

I imagine West Harbour would be ecstatic - they'd take over the junior area for sure.

Penrith would have to be getting worried though.

I wonder if they drop off would the NSWRU look to replace them with another heartland team? Would be a massive cop-out, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Oddly enough, Drummoyne has been kicking ass and taking names (so to speak) in Div. 1 subbies over the last few years. A return to top flight perhaps?
